Governor Ademola Adeleke Commends Anambra State Governor’s Electoral Victory
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has extended his congratulations to Prof. Chukwama Soludo, the governor of Anambra State, following his successful re-election in the recent governorship polls. In a statement released on Monday, signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke emphasized the importance of respecting the people’s will as expressed through the ballot box.
Adeleke described Soludo’s re-election as a testament to his leadership and the confidence the people of Anambra have in him. He expressed his joy at the outcome, stating that it reflects Soludo’s good performance over the past four years and the deep affection the citizens have for his governance style and service to the people.
The governor also highlighted the significance of free and fair elections, noting that they are possible when true democrats oversee the electoral process. “The outcome is a confirmation that free and fair elections are possible when true democrats superintend the electoral process,” he said.
Soludo was declared the winner of the Saturday, 8 November 2025, Anambra State governorship election by the Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Edoba Omoregie. This victory underscores the trust placed in Soludo by the voters of Anambra.
Adeleke reiterated the importance of upholding democratic principles, emphasizing that power flows from the people. He stated that the people have the right to choose their leaders, which is the essence of democracy. “Democracy is not voters’ intimidation, vote rigging, electoral violence, and thuggery in all forms. Democracy is about ballot papers, ballot boxes, and a free environment for the citizens to cast their votes,” he added.
He also called for the criminalization of electoral robbery and urged politicians to avoid any actions that threaten the integrity of the electoral process. Adeleke praised the leadership of the electoral commission under Prof. Amupitan, calling it a commendable start to his tenure as electoral chief. He encouraged the commission to deepen electoral reforms to address existing challenges.
Adeleke noted that every stage in the electoral life of a nation is a historical moment. He urged the political class to recommit to electoral transparency and accountability as a mark of respect for the constitution and the people.
In the election, Soludo secured a total of 422,664 votes, defeating his closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress, who received 99,445 votes. Sir Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party came in third with 37,753 votes.
