New Housing Estates in Ebonyi State Reach Advanced Completion
Residents of Ebonyi State are expected to move into newly built housing estates valued at billions of naira before the end of the year. These government-led projects, aimed at addressing the state’s housing shortage, are now in their final stages of completion.
Engr Francis Ori, the State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, confirmed this during a recent interview with journalists in Abakaliki. He emphasized that multiple housing developments are nearing completion, offering much-needed shelter to displaced families and public servants.
Key Projects Underway
Among the ongoing initiatives is theIzzo-Amaeze Housing Estate, which will provide 140 three-bedroom bungalows for families affected by communal conflicts in Ishielu Council. This project is particularly significant as it addresses the urgent need for safe and stable housing in areas impacted by violence.
Another major development is thePublic and Civil Servants Housing Estate, consisting of 140 four-bedroom duplexes. This project is designed to support government workers and ensure they have access to quality housing.
Additionally, theNnodo Community Estateis being constructed with units ranging from three to five bedrooms, catering to a wide range of residents. The variety of housing options ensures that different segments of the population can benefit from these developments.
“Most of the projects are between 80 and 98 percent complete,” Ori explained. “Internal tiling, finishing, and infrastructure works are well underway, and road construction is being finalized before external painting to ensure uniform quality.”
Quality Assurance and Design Standards
The commissioner also addressed concerns about the quality of the housing estates. He emphasized that all structures meet professional engineering standards, including the use ofraft foundations and reinforced columnsto ensure durability and safety.
“These estates have been built according to high-quality standards,” Ori said. “They are not just temporary shelters but long-term solutions that will serve the community for years to come.”
He added that the government is committed to providing aesthetically pleasing homes that families can be proud of, reinforcing the idea that these projects are not hidden or experimental but practical and visible.
Future Developments and Plans
Looking ahead, Ori revealed plans for additional housing developments. A new estate comprising 140 units is set to be constructed in theCentenary City area, with construction scheduled to begin in the first quarter of next year.
He encouraged residents to remain patient as the government finalizes the commissioning schedules. The housing initiatives are part of a broader strategy to meet the social housing needs of Ebonyi State.
“We are working diligently to ensure that every family has access to safe and affordable housing,” Ori said. “These projects are not just about building houses; they are about creating communities.”
