Four Dead, Others Injured in Gombe Road Crash

Tragic Bus Crash on Busy Road Claims Four Lives

A devastating bus crash has occurred on the busy Cham-Numan road in the Balanga LGA area, resulting in four fatalities and several injuries. The incident was confirmed by the Gombe State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) through the Sector Commander, CC Samson Kaura.

According to Kaura, the crash took place around 2 am on Sunday. A Toyota Hummer bus, traveling from Toro LGA in Bauchi State to Adamawa State, lost control due to excessive speed. The vehicle was carrying mostly children, and the accident resulted in significant loss of life and injury.

Kaura explained that the driver had violated the speed limit, which led to a loss of control and the subsequent crash. He added that the bus was also overloaded, with children “lapping one another” and increasing the number of passengers beyond the vehicle’s capacity.

He stated, “The bus was carrying 41 persons, mostly children, as against the expected 18. This is unfortunate because the vehicle was overloaded, which increased the risk of such an incident.”

Caution Against Night Travel

In his statement, Kaura urged drivers and other road users to avoid traveling at night, emphasizing the risks involved. Although he acknowledged that it is their constitutional right to travel anytime, he stressed that night travel is more dangerous than during the day.

He warned, “Those who want to escape road enforcement officers and decide to travel at night must desist from those acts while doing the right thing and prioritizing their safety and that of their passengers.”

Kaura also called for strict adherence to traffic rules and regulations, highlighting that “life is more important than any economic or other benefit from driving.”

Response and Aftermath

The FRSC reported that both the injured and the deceased have been evacuated to the hospital for medical attention. The bodies have been placed in the morgue, awaiting the arrival of their families. The vehicle involved in the crash has been removed, and the obstruction has been cleared to ensure the free flow of traffic on the road.
