Two Road Accidents Result in One Death and 17 Injuries
Two separate road accidents occurred in the districts of Makwanpur and Gorkha, resulting in one fatality and 17 injuries. The incidents took place on Thursday night, highlighting the ongoing concerns about road safety in the region.
Fatal Accident in Hetauda-9
In the first incident, a pedestrian, believed to be 32 years old, was struck by a bus (Bagmati Province 03-001K 2656) at Hetauda-9, Mashtarchowk. The victim succumbed to their injuries, and the police have yet to identify the deceased. The bus driver, Sujay Kumar Singh, 33, from Ramgopalpur-6, Mahottari, has been taken into custody for further investigation.
This tragic event underscores the dangers faced by pedestrians in areas with heavy traffic. The police are currently working to determine the exact circumstances that led to the collision.
Multiple Injuries in Gorkha
In another incident, a microbus (Ba 4 Kha 6043) traveling from Bhachchek to Abukhaireni crashed into a roadside wall at Chorkate bend in Siranchowk Rural Municipality-4, Gorkha. The accident resulted in 17 passengers being injured. According to DSP Rajkumar Shrestha, spokesperson for the District Police Office, the bus lost control before the crash.
Among those injured were:
- Eight-year-old Sworinlal Chaudhary
- 43-year-old Laxmi Chaudhary
- 36-year-old Pavitra Mahato
All three sustained serious injuries and were promptly taken to Provincial Hospital Gorkha for treatment. The police arrived at the scene quickly, ensuring that the injured were rescued and transported to the hospital.
Most of the injured individuals are residents of Khaireni Municipality, Chitwan. At the time of the accident, there were 19 passengers on board the microbus.
Ongoing Investigations and Safety Concerns
Both incidents are under investigation, with authorities focusing on determining the causes of the accidents. The police are examining factors such as vehicle conditions, driver behavior, and road infrastructure to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
