Oyo Community Constructs Police Post, Embodies Development Pledge

Community Achievements and Future Aspirations Highlight Oke Amu Day 2025

Stakeholders in Oke Amu, located in Oyo State, have made significant progress in their community development efforts. One of the most notable achievements is the completion of a police post, a project that was initiated three years ago. This milestone was among the key highlights of the 2025 Oke Amu Day celebration, which brought together residents from various parts of Nigeria, including Lagos, Oyo, Iseyin, and beyond.

The event, although low-key, was deeply impactful, marked by a sense of joy, reflection, and renewed commitment to the town’s growth. It served as a platform for the community to come together and celebrate its heritage while looking forward to future development.

Leadership Transition and New Commitments

A significant moment during the celebration was the formal appointment of Elder Bolaji Shitu as the new chairman of the Oke Amu Community Development Committee (Home and Abroad). His leadership was endorsed by both the national and local executive committees, who expressed confidence in his ability to lead the community toward greater progress.

In his acceptance speech, Shitu pledged to unite all Oke Amu indigenes, both within Nigeria and in the diaspora, to work collectively on projects that would elevate the town. He emphasized the importance of cooperation and consistent contributions to ensure sustainable development.

The Olugunwa of Oke Amu land, Oba Kasali Oyeniyi Omotoso (Fadeyi I), commended the people for their unwavering support and urged them to maintain the momentum of progress. His remarks were delivered by Chief Salau Adekola, Ikolaba of Oke Amu, who also recognized the efforts of the Oke Amu Prestige Elite Club for their generous donations during the construction of the police post.

Government Support and Infrastructure Development

Hon. Monsuru Olayemi, Executive Chairman of Itesiwaju Local Government, was honored at the event for his role in the reconstruction of classroom blocks at the Oke Amu L.A. Primary School. He assured the community that within the next year, the council would link the Iseyin–Oke Amu road and grade the Alaganran link road. Additionally, he pledged to support the rehabilitation and modernization of the Oke Amu community hall.

Olayemi also addressed critical issues such as security threats, urging residents to remain vigilant against banditry, kidnapping, and drug abuse among youths. He encouraged parents to take an active role in guiding their children’s moral development.

Recognition of Past Contributions and Future Plans

The Oke Amu Community Development Committee announced plans to set up a special committee to recognize both living and late elders who have made outstanding contributions to the community. This initiative will be highlighted ahead of the 2026 celebration.

Hon. Akinleye Emmanuel, Chairman of the Oke Amu Day Celebration Committee, expressed deep gratitude to all indigenes, both at home and abroad, for their overwhelming support and generosity. He praised the community’s spirit of patriotism and noted the return of a strong sense of love for their fatherland.

Akinleye urged all sons and daughters of Oke Amu to continue contributing to the town’s development, emphasizing the importance of unity and collective effort.

Cultural Celebrations and Educational Focus

The event, moderated by Mr. Bello Jimoh, featured cultural performances and community reflections. Bello confirmed the community’s resolve to encourage parents to re-enroll their children in public schools within Oke Amu, including the L.A. Primary School, to strengthen local education and communal identity.

He also announced that preparations are underway for an elaborate 2026 edition of the celebration, which will feature new development projects and expanded participation from Oke Amu indigenes in the diaspora.

During the event, the community paid glowing tributes to Late Elder Ayoade Adetunji and other departed leaders, honoring their legacy and contributions.
