Court Continues Hearing on PDP Convention Dispute
Justice Ladiran Akintola of the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has once again postponed the hearing of a Motion on Notice in a case filed by Folahan Malomo Adelabi against the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), its Acting National Chairman, and other parties. The next hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, 12th November, 2025.
This decision follows a previous ruling by Justice Akintola last week, where he issued an ex-parte order directing the PDP to proceed with its scheduled National Convention. At that time, the court had adjourned the hearing on the Motion of Notice until Monday, 10th November, 2025.
On Monday, the presiding judge listened to arguments from both parties’ legal representatives. After considering their submissions, he requested that all necessary legal documents be submitted to ensure the smooth progression of the case. As a result, the court decided to extend the adjournment until Wednesday, allowing time for all pending applications to be reviewed by the court.
The claimant, Folahan Malomo Adelabi, has sought a court order to prevent the defendants—including the PDP’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Iliya Damagum, the Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) or its agents—from interfering with the party’s scheduled national convention. The court also ordered the PDP leadership to strictly follow the guidelines, timetable, and schedule of activities previously released for the convention.
Restrictions on Media Access
In another significant development, journalists were denied access to the courtroom during the proceedings. Security personnel were stationed at the entrance of the court, preventing media representatives from entering the premises to cover the session. This move raised concerns about transparency and public access to judicial processes.
