Key Development Schemes Approved in Punjab

The 43rd meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) for the current financial year has taken a significant step forward by approving 25 major development schemes. These projects are expected to cost a total of Rs. 165 billion and span across various sectors, aiming to enhance infrastructure and public services throughout Punjab.

The meeting was presided over by Acting Chairman of the Planning and Development Board, Rafaqat Ali, and took place on Friday. The approved schemes cover a wide range of areas including education, aquaculture, sanitation, and water supply systems.

Overview of Approved Projects

Here is a detailed look at the key projects that have been sanctioned:

  • Chief Minister’s Punjab Schools Meal Program (Revised): This initiative aims to provide meals to students and is estimated to cost Rs. 6,998 million.

  • Establishment of Aquaculture Malls in Punjab (Revised): Designed to boost the aquaculture sector, this project will cost Rs. 4,168.127 million.

  • Establishment of Shrimp Farms at Rakh Aii walik Muzaffargarh: This project focuses on developing shrimp farming in the area, with an estimated cost of Rs. 10,000 million.

  • Punjab Development Program (Sewerage/Drainage System in Faisalabad City): This includes the replacement and improvement of sewerage and drainage systems in the eastern part of Faisalabad, costing Rs. 5,749 million.

  • Improvement of Sewerage/Drainage Systems in Western Part of Faisalabad City: This project involves improving the water supply distribution system and procurement of drainage machinery, with an estimated cost of Rs. 7,005 million.

  • Development of Infrastructure in Sahiwal City: This project targets the North Zone and South Zone of Sahiwal City, focusing on sewerage, storm water drainage, street pavements, and allied infrastructure. The estimated costs are Rs. 8,696 million and Rs. 3,449 million respectively.

  • Sewerage/Drainage Projects in Gujranwala: Several projects have been approved for different zones in Gujranwala, with costs ranging from Rs. 8,109 million to Rs. 9,024 million.

  • Procurement of Generators and Sewer Cleaning Machinery in Gujranwala: This project is aimed at upgrading disposal stations and sewer cleaning machinery, with an estimated cost of Rs. 1,110 million.

  • Multan Development Projects: Multiple initiatives are planned for Multan, including the augmentation and rehabilitation of disposal stations, replacement of outdated sewerage systems, and provision of sewerage services in unserved areas. Costs range from Rs. 4,700 million to Rs. 4,200 million.

  • Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib Projects: These projects focus on improving sewerage, storm water drainage, street pavements, and allied infrastructure in various zones of these cities. Estimated costs include Rs. 9,345 million and Rs. 6,000 million.

  • Sialkot Development Programs: Two projects have been approved for different zones in Sialkot, with costs of Rs. 9.941 million and Rs. 9,994 million respectively.

  • Rawalpindi Projects: Initiatives are planned for the western side of Rawalpindi, focusing on the sewerage and drainage systems, as well as the water supply system. Estimated costs are Rs. 7,940 million and Rs. 5,002 million.
