Rep Jibrin Joins APC, Endorses Tinubu’s Re-election

Political Shift: Lawmaker Returns to APC

Abdulmumin Jibrin, the lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State in the House of Representatives, has made a significant political move by returning to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This decision was accompanied by a large number of his supporters, marking a notable shift in his political allegiance.

Jibrin had previously left the APC in May 2022 to join the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), where he contested and won the House of Representatives seat. However, his tenure with the NNPP came to an abrupt halt when he was suspended about two months ago due to alleged anti-party activities and non-payment of membership dues. The suspension followed an interview he gave to the Hausa Service of BBC, where he expressed his support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

In response to the suspension, Jibrin accepted his expulsion from the NNPP. However, on Sunday, he addressed a large crowd of his supporters in his hometown, Kofa, located in Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State, and declared his return to the APC. He renounced his membership in the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya Movement, which is led by the former Kano State Governor, Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Jibrin also reiterated his support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election. In a short post on his official Facebook page and a statement released on Monday, he provided details about the political gathering and the resolve of his supporters to unanimously abandon the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya Movement to align with the ruling APC at the federal level.

“Today, in a show of solidarity, I was warmly received by thousands of my constituents in my hometown of Kofa, Bebeji, Kano,” Jibrin wrote. “The gathering resolved to leave the NNPP/Kwankwasiyya, join the APC, and endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for a second term in office.”

He also revealed that a large number of clerics in his constituency have been praying for the president. From the beginning, almost 2,000 scholars from his constituency have prayed special prayers for the President and sought peace, development, and progress for Kiru/Bebeji, Kano, and Nigeria altogether.

While expressing appreciation for the support he received while in the NNPP, Jibrin urged his supporters to join him in his “new journey” back to the APC. He also encouraged them to maintain peaceful relations with those who decide to remain in the NNPP.
