Serengeti’s Enchantment Leaves US Tour Agents Spellbound

International Tour Operators Explore Tanzania’s Natural Wonders

A group of 120 tour operators from various American companies has recently arrived in Tanzania for a familiarisation trip to some of the country’s most iconic tourist attractions, including the Serengeti National Park. This initiative is part of a broader effort to increase the number of international visitors to Tanzania and reinforce its position as Africa’s premier tourism destination.

The visit highlights the country’s rich natural heritage and unique attractions, which continue to draw global attention. The Serengeti, known for its vast savannahs and the annual wildebeest migration, remains one of the most sought-after destinations for wildlife enthusiasts around the world.

During their stay at the Serengeti National Park, several tour agents expressed their admiration for the park’s breathtaking landscapes and pledged to promote Tanzania more effectively through their travel packages. One such agent, Ms Patricia Walker from Nexion Travel in the United States, shared her excitement about finally fulfilling a long-held dream.

“I have always wanted to travel to Tanzania and experience its unique attractions, especially the Serengeti National Park. I’m delighted to have finally fulfilled my dream,” she said. “After seeing what we have witnessed here, we believe we will help to increase the number of visitors through the various travel packages we offer back home.”

Another participant, Ms Catherine Alexander, was particularly impressed by the hot air balloon safaris conducted within the park. She described the experience as a unique way to view the wildlife from above.

“We had the opportunity to see animals and other attractions from above, which was truly a unique experience,” she said. “We also plan to visit the Hadzabe, Datoga, and Maasai communities to learn about their traditional cultures.”

Mr Justin Garfield, managing director of Excellent Guide Tours and Safaris, emphasized the importance of the trip in helping the agents better understand Tanzania’s tourism offerings. He mentioned that the group would spend 12 days exploring different parts of the country and gaining insights into its diverse attractions.

“I believe that after this trip we will continue to receive even more visitors. Some of these agents have been to Tanzania before, but for many this is their first time, which will further stimulate growth in the tourism sector,” he said.

Mr Stephano Msumi, Senior Assistant Conservation Commissioner and Chief Park Warden for Serengeti National Park, welcomed the guests and encouraged them to act as ambassadors for Tanzania’s tourism industry.

“We welcome you to Serengeti and to Tanzania as a whole. We believe you will be good ambassadors for our attractions and help the country shine even brighter on the global tourism stage,” he said.

Recent data highlights the growing significance of tourism in Tanzania. During the World Tourism Day celebrations, Dr Hassan Abbasi, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, noted that the sector generated $3.9 billion (about Sh9 trillion) in 2024. He also highlighted the positive trends in both international and domestic tourism, with international visitors rising from 922,000 in 2021 to 2.14 million in 2024, while domestic tourists increased from 788,000 to 3.12 million over the same period.

This visit by American tour operators underscores the potential for continued growth in Tanzania’s tourism sector. By showcasing the country’s natural beauty and cultural richness, these professionals are expected to play a key role in attracting more travelers to Tanzania in the coming years.
