A New Era of Progress for Anambra State
Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, has announced the beginning of a “new era of progress” following his decisive re-election. In a speech to supporters after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released the election results, Soludo expressed deep gratitude to the electorate for granting him and his deputy a renewed mandate, securing 73% of the votes cast.
“Your overwhelming support humbles us. Out of 326 electoral votes, we lost only six, and across 21 local government areas, we secured nearly all wards, 97 to 98%,” said Soludo. He emphasized that this result is a clear demonstration of trust in his administration and pledged to fully honor this mandate.
Soludo assured residents of Anambra that his administration would accelerate its development agenda. “Starting from March, we shift into gear four. We are now at gear two or three, but the full momentum begins in March,” he stated. This marks a significant step forward in the state’s growth and development plans.
The governor also commended President Bola Tinubu for guaranteeing free, fair, and transparent elections. He praised INEC, particularly its new chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, for conducting a credible election. Soludo highlighted the efforts of INEC’s ICT department, which uploaded over 99% of the results on the IREV portal by midnight, ensuring real-time transparency.
Emphasizing Unity and Collaboration
Addressing his opponents, Soludo highlighted the enduring spirit of Anambra politics. “We fight passionately, but we remain united afterward. This is the Anambra way,” he said, extending a hand of fellowship to all contestants. His message of unity resonated with many, reinforcing the idea that political rivalry should not hinder collective progress.
He further acknowledged the critical role of security agencies, including the Nigerian Police, Army, DSS, Civil Defence, Navy, and local forces, whose vigilance ensured peaceful elections. Soludo also remembered a councillor and supporter who was tragically killed during the election, urging prayers for their repose.
Immediate Action on Governance
With the renewed mandate, Soludo stressed the importance of immediate action on governance. This includes budget planning and other development priorities. “Anambra cannot wait. The job ahead is enormous, and we are ready to deliver,” he said, underscoring the urgency of his administration’s plans.
Soludo concluded by expressing gratitude to the people of Anambra and all stakeholders in the electoral process. He reiterated his commitment to leaving the state better than he found it, emphasizing a long-term vision for sustainable development and progress.
