Police Coach Worries Over Kwizera’s Fitness

Concerns Over Captain’s Absence

Police VC head coach Fred Musoni is expressing growing concerns over the absence of his captain, Eric Kwizera. Since the start of the National Volleyball League (RNVL) season, Kwizera has not been able to feature for the club due to an injury. The player, who took over from Olivier Ntagengwa after his departure during the off-season, has been sidelined with an ankle injury since October 18. His absence has had a noticeable impact on the team’s performance, particularly when they suffered a loss to Gisagara VC in the league’s third round on November 1.

Musoni shared his thoughts on Kwizera’s condition, stating that while the player’s recovery is improving, he will only return once fully fit. “Kwizera is not yet healed from the injury, but he’s doing some exercises to recover quickly. However, I don’t want to rush him, we have a lot of games ahead,” he said.

Team Performance Amid Challenges

With Kwizera out of action, Police VC have managed to secure two wins in their last three matches during the first phase of the league. Their campaign began with a strong victory against Kirehe VC, but they faced a setback with a defeat to Gisagara VC in straight sets (25–20, 25–17, 25–23). This loss highlighted the challenges the team faces without their key player.

During the match against REG VC, Musoni made the decision to give younger players an opportunity to showcase their abilities. Among them was Patrick Ishimwe, who left a strong impression after being introduced in the second set. “Patrick did what was expected of him. He played only a few minutes but was very productive in attack,” Musoni remarked, adding that the youngster is still vying for a regular starting spot.

Looking Ahead

Police VC are set to return to action in the sixth round of the league when they face East Africa University Rwanda (EAUR) on Saturday, November 21. The upcoming match presents an opportunity for the team to regroup and focus on improving their performance.

Key Players and Future Prospects

The absence of Kwizera has forced Musoni to rely on other players to fill the gap. While the team has managed to maintain a competitive edge, the coach remains cautious about rushing any player back into the lineup. The focus is on ensuring that all athletes are in optimal condition before returning to play.

Musoni emphasized the importance of maintaining a balanced approach, both in terms of player development and team performance. By giving younger players like Ishimwe a chance to shine, the coach is laying the foundation for a stronger and more resilient team in the future.

Conclusion

As Police VC continues its journey through the RNVL, the team must navigate the challenges posed by injuries and the need to develop new talent. With Kwizera’s recovery still ongoing, the coaching staff is working diligently to ensure that the squad remains competitive and prepared for the upcoming matches. The path forward will require patience, strategic planning, and a commitment to long-term success.
