Missing NYSC Corps Member: A Complex Case Unfolding
A 24-year-old National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Levi Anyanwu, has gone missing from his primary assignment at the Ijaw National Academy in Kaiama, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. His disappearance was reported on October 8, 2025, and since then, the Bayelsa State Police Command has been actively involved in efforts to locate him.
Anyanwu, who holds an NYSC registration number BYS/25A/0244, is currently under investigation by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Police Command. The unit has been tasked with tracking down the missing corps member and bringing him back safely.
According to information obtained, police operatives have launched a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Anyanwu’s disappearance. In a statement, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Musa Mohammed, provided details about the initial findings. He revealed that the last known sighting of Anyanwu was while he was with fellow Jehovah’s Witnesses worshippers, Mr. and Mrs. Wisdom George.
The statement highlighted several key points:
- On October 10, 2025, Mr. Oke Emmanuel, a fellow corps member and roommate of Anyanwu, was interrogated by detectives. He confirmed that Anyanwu was with the George family until October 6, 2025.
- Mr. George disclosed that Anyanwu had complained of illness and was taken for treatment at the Kaiama Referral Hospital on October 4, 2025. He was reportedly discharged on October 5, 2025.
- On October 6, 2025, Anyanwu disappeared from an unknown destination.
Further investigation revealed that Anyanwu’s phone was left in his apartment. Detectives traced a GSM call from the number 0906193291, which led them to an inmate detained at the Igbara Correctional Custodian Centre in Abeokuta, Ogun State. This inmate is linked to a kidnapping case.
The suspect claimed that they saw the telephone number on social media and decided to target the victim’s father, Mr. Anyanwu Simon, who is 56 years old. A sum of N100,000:00 was allegedly paid to the account Opay; 7042793493, which belongs to Atinuke Oluwalose, a close collaborator of the detained inmate at Abeokuta Prison.
The police statement also mentioned that there are declarations made by Anyanwu regarding certain recent social preferences and appetites that may have impacted his religious beliefs. These statements were considered disturbing and may have influenced his actions.
Despite these findings, the police have emphasized that there is no case of kidnapping in this particular incident. They are still conducting ongoing investigations to ensure that all leads are thoroughly explored and that the case is properly concluded.
The situation remains under active surveillance, with law enforcement agencies working diligently to uncover the truth behind Anyanwu’s disappearance. As the investigation continues, the community and authorities remain hopeful for a safe resolution to this complex case.
