Kaduna State Unveils $450 Million Agricultural Investment with China

Kaduna State has made a significant leap in its agricultural development by securing a $450 million investment from the Chinese government. This collaboration will establish the Nigeria–China Poultry Project, an ambitious initiative expected to generate over 350,000 jobs, enhance food security, and drive industrial growth across the region.

The project was officially announced through a statement released by the Kaduna State Ministry of Information on X. The statement emphasized that Kaduna will serve as the pilot host state for this groundbreaking initiative, marking a new era of economic cooperation between Nigeria and China in the agricultural sector.

“Kaduna State is set to host the pilot phase of the landmark Nigeria–China Poultry Project, a transformative $450 million agricultural investment designed to boost food security, create jobs, and accelerate industrial growth,” the statement read.

Key Details of the Project

According to the ministry, the project will cover 10,000 hectares of land dedicated to the production of maize, soybean, and poultry. Construction is scheduled to begin in December 2025, signaling the start of a major transformation in the agricultural landscape of Kaduna.

“The project’s key highlights include an investment value of $450 million and a project scope covering 10,000 hectares for maize, soybean, and poultry production. It is expected to create 50,000 direct and over 300,000 indirect jobs, with construction set to commence in December 2025,” the statement added.

The economic benefits of the project are anticipated to be substantial. It aims to strengthen food systems, increase agro-industrial output, and position Kaduna as a leader in agriculture. The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Infrastructure Fund, promoting skills transfer, rural development, and community prosperity.

Governor Uba Sani’s Vision

Governor Uba Sani, who recently met with the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, and the leadership of the Nigeria–China Strategic Partnership, hailed the agreement as a defining step in Kaduna’s pursuit of global investment and agro-industrial excellence.

He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for choosing Kaduna as the pilot state, reaffirming the state’s commitment to agriculture as a cornerstone of its economic recovery and job-creation agenda.

Ambassador Dunhai praised Kaduna’s investor-friendly environment, while the NCSP Director-General, Joseph Tegbe, commended the state for allocating 7,000 hectares of land for the project’s immediate implementation.
