Young Spellers Shine in Enugu Regional Final of MTN mPulse Spelling Bee

On Saturday, November 1, 2025, the International Conference Centre in Enugu witnessed a remarkable display of talent and determination as young Nigerians aged 9 to 15 participated in the regional final of the MTN mPulse Spelling Bee. The event, which lasted for an intense one-hour session, featured 20 contestants who demonstrated exceptional spelling skills and composure under pressure.

After a thrilling competition, seven young spellers emerged as winners and secured their spots in the grand finale scheduled to take place in Lagos. These talented participants—Nelson Ede Chidubem, Praise Ihionu, Emeka Nwaokocha Samuel, Treasure Oyibosu, Michelle Atanu Ufedo, Munachimso Onyemaechi, and Oyingba Douglas-Naingba—were awarded their tags for the national stage, where they will join other regional champions in the quest for the national title.

The event was not only about competition but also about celebration and recognition. Gift vouchers were given to children and parents through interactive question-and-answer sessions, adding a festive atmosphere to the proceedings.

Honoring the Efforts of All Involved

In his address, Honourable Emeka Nelson Nwagbo, Senior Special Adviser on Youth Mobilisation, Enugu West, praised the initiative for promoting academic excellence and inspiring the youth to pursue knowledge with confidence and pride. He expressed gratitude to the organizers, teachers, parents, and participants for their contributions to making the event a success.

“Your dedication and support have truly made today memorable,” he said. “Once again, we say a big thank you to MTN Nigeria. We are happy that the brand is working in line with the vision of the Governor concerning smart schools. We look forward to more collaborations that will continue to empower our kids and youths.”

Honourable Paul Ogbewe Okechukwu, Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth Mobilisation, Enugu East, also commended MTN for its efforts in fostering literacy and healthy competition among teenagers. He highlighted the significance of hosting the first physical regional finals in Enugu, marking a milestone in the event’s history.

Looking Ahead to Future Competitions

With the seven winners from the Enugu regional final now set to compete in the grand finale in Lagos, attention is turning to the upcoming regional finals of the MTN mPulse Spelling Bee. These events are scheduled to take place in Abuja on November 8 and Ibadan on November 15, 2025.

The competition continues to bring together young talents from across the country, providing them with a platform to showcase their skills and aspirations.
