Cross River Gov Boosts Security Amid Terrorist Miner Fears

Enhanced Security Measures in Cross River State

The Cross River State Government has significantly increased its security operations following intelligence reports suggesting that suspected terrorists may attempt to enter the state under the pretense of mining activities. This move comes as a direct response to growing concerns about potential threats to public safety.

Prince Paul Effiong, the Chairman of the State Anti-Illegal Mining Taskforce Committee, made this information public through a statement. He called on residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious behavior within their communities. Effiong emphasized that this warning is in line with recent alerts issued by the United States government regarding possible terrorist activities across Nigeria.

He noted that these threats could lead some criminal elements to target the South-South and South-East regions, including Cross River State. According to Effiong, the suspected infiltrators might try to gain the trust of local leaders and residents by presenting themselves as legitimate miners. However, their true intention would be to exploit the hospitality of the community for unlawful purposes.

Effiong assured the public that the administration of Governor Bassey Otu has implemented comprehensive security measures to protect lives and property throughout the state. He stated, “There is no cause for panic. The government remains committed to protecting every citizen. We urge residents to stay alert but not fearful.”

In addition, he urged communities to verify the identity of individuals or groups claiming to be miners. Any unusual activities should be reported immediately to security agencies, local authorities, or the Anti-Illegal Mining Taskforce. Effiong stressed that the fight against insecurity requires the cooperation of both citizens and the government.

“Our safety depends on collective vigilance. If you see something, say something. Together, we can protect our land and secure our future,” he said.
