MSF Withdraws from Parts of North Darfur Due to Escalating Drone Attacks
On November 6, 2025, in Paris, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) revealed that it has temporarily withdrawn its teams from certain areas of North Darfur. This decision comes as a response to a significant rise in drone attacks, which have put the safety of both staff and patients at risk.
The move follows a particularly devastating incident on November 3, when a drone attack targeted Kornoi Hospital. According to MSF, the strike resulted in the deaths and injuries of several patients, including children and two pregnant women. The attack has left a deep scar on the community and raised serious concerns about the security of medical facilities in the region.
Drone strikes in the Kornoi, Tine, and Um Baru areas have intensified, leading many civilians to flee across the border into Chad. In Tine, Chad, MSF teams have treated at least 50 patients who were injured in these attacks since October 24. The situation continues to deteriorate, with more people seeking refuge and assistance.
Dago Inagbe, MSF Coordinator for North Darfur, expressed the organization’s deep concern over the impact of drone strikes on civilians and humanitarian access. He stated, “Attacks on healthcare facilities endanger lives and force some of the few remaining health services to shut down.” This sentiment highlights the urgent need for protection of medical infrastructure and personnel in conflict zones.
MSF emphasized that its teams are working to return to support the few remaining healthcare facilities. However, the repeated drone strikes make this task increasingly challenging. The organization remains committed to ensuring that hospitals are always safe places for patients and staff alike.
In addition, MSF has called for humanitarian workers to be able to move safely to provide essential care. The organization advocates for the protection of medical facilities and the right of aid workers to operate without fear of violence.
As the conflict in North Darfur continues to escalate, the role of organizations like MSF becomes even more critical. Their efforts to provide medical care in such dangerous conditions underscore the importance of international support and the need for stronger measures to protect civilians and healthcare workers.
The situation in North Darfur serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by communities in conflict zones. It also highlights the necessity for global attention and action to ensure that humanitarian aid can reach those in need, regardless of the dangers they face.
