Governor Usman Ododo Reaffirms Commitment to Security and Development in Kogi State

Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the security and welfare of the people of Kogi. This was one of the key highlights during the recent Kogi State Executive Council Meeting, which took place on Thursday at the New EXCO Hall, Government House, Lokoja, under the chairmanship of the Governor.

At the end of the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, addressed newsmen and emphasized that the Governor assured the residents of Kogi that the government is “on top of the game” when it comes to ensuring the safety of lives and property. He added that both residents and investors have nothing to fear as the administration is already making progress in the fight against insecurity.

Focus on Water Access and Infrastructure Development

In addition to security, the Governor directed all Commissioners and other EXCO members to provide three boreholes each in their respective local government areas. This initiative aims to improve access to clean water and complement the state’s ongoing water supply initiatives.

The Council also discussed measures to enhance road safety across Kogi. As part of these efforts, they approved the restriction of articulated vehicles within Lokoja during daytime hours to reduce road accidents, particularly along the Felele axis. Furthermore, steps were taken to establish safer and better-managed trailer parks throughout the state.

Energy and Fiscal Initiatives

Fanwo disclosed that the Council considered and approved the procurement of electricity transformers to be distributed across the three senatorial districts. This move is part of broader efforts to strengthen power distribution and stimulate economic growth.

The Council also approved the transmission of a Bill for the enactment of a new State Tax Law to the Kogi State House of Assembly. The proposed law aims to improve revenue generation and promote fiscal responsibility.

Engagement with Former Officials

The meeting included a joint session with former Commissioners who served between 2016 and 2024. Led by Hon. Salisu Sani Ogu, former Commissioner for Youth and Sports, the group commended Governor Ododo for his inclusive leadership style and pledged their continued support for the state’s progress.

In response, the Governor expressed gratitude for the former appointees’ loyalty and partnership. He assured them that such engagements will be institutionalized to strengthen unity and foster development.

Progress on Infrastructure Projects

The Council also received progress reports on the ongoing township road projects and infrastructural works in state-owned educational institutions across the state.

Fanwo reaffirmed that Governor Ododo’s administration will continue to prioritize people-focused governance, strengthen security, and deliver projects that improve the welfare of the people of Kogi State.
