Strong Start to Black Friday 2025 in E-Commerce

The e-commerce sector has seen a promising start on Black Friday 2025, with early data showing impressive results. According to real-time updates from PayU GPO Romania’s Media Center, by 14:10 on Friday, November 7, the payment processor reported successful transactions totaling RON 514 million (approximately EUR 101 million). This figure highlights the significant consumer activity and spending during the event.

Shoppers made approximately 889,000 purchases, with around 70% of these transactions completed using one-click payments. This indicates a growing preference for convenience and speed among online shoppers, especially during high-traffic sales events like Black Friday.

One of the most notable transactions recorded so far was a purchase worth RON 65,269 at 12:17, followed by two other large transactions of RON 50,076 at 9:02 and RON 49,788 at 9:49. These figures underscore the willingness of consumers to spend substantial amounts on high-value items during the sale period.

The average shopping basket size reached RON 580, which is about three times higher than the usual amount spent on a typical day. Additionally, the average value of installment-based purchases climbed to RON 950, nearly double the standard amount. This suggests that more consumers are opting for flexible payment options to manage larger purchases.

Popular Categories and Consumer Trends

According to the same source, the most purchased categories include cosmetics, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) such as groceries and non-perishables, children’s products, information technology and communications (IT&C), and home and décor goods. These categories reflect the diverse interests of consumers, ranging from personal care to household essentials and tech gadgets.

Black Friday 2025 activity remained robust across major platforms, with eMAG being one of the standout performers. By 13:10, the platform reported that customers had ordered 2.44 million products worth a total of RON 706 million. The average spend per client was RON 1,420, according to Stirileprotv.ro.

eMAG, the largest online retailer in Romania, also shared its performance metrics. The platform registered 7.7 million visits, with 84% of traffic coming from mobile devices. Users viewed an impressive 162.5 million pages, equivalent to 190 years and 336 days of browsing time in just a few hours. This highlights the immense engagement and interest generated by the sale.

eMAG initially estimated Black Friday sales this year at RON 940 million (EUR 184.7 million), which is RON 44 million more than the previous year. This projection reflects the company’s confidence in the continued growth of e-commerce and consumer spending during major sales events.
