Operation Whirl Stroke Arrests Three Suspects in Benue State

Troops under Operation Whirl Stroke have successfully arrested three individuals suspected of possessing illegal arms in the Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State. The arrest was confirmed by the acting Media Information Officer of the operation, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, who shared details of the incident through a statement released on Friday.

The suspects were apprehended on Wednesday, November 5, during a routine patrol along the Otukpo–Enugu Road at the Amoda axis of the local government. According to Zubairu, the arrest followed intelligence reports that led the troops to stop the suspects while they were riding a motorcycle.

The individuals identified as John Isaac (22 years), Baba Emmanuel (17 years), and Sunday Thomas (19 years) are all residents of Otukpo Local Government Area. During the search, the troops recovered three mobile phones and a sum of ₦20,200 from the suspects.

Zubairu noted that preliminary investigations suggested the suspects were en route to commit a crime before being intercepted by the operation’s forces. He added that the suspects are currently in custody for further investigation and legal proceedings.

The Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their professionalism and proactive approach in preventing a potential security threat. Gara urged the military personnel to maintain the momentum of their operations and enhance surveillance efforts to protect farmers and rural communities, especially during the ongoing harvest season.

He also reaffirmed the operation’s commitment to ensuring peace and stability across Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States. The military has assured residents of its dedication to safeguarding lives and property.

This recent arrest follows a series of incidents in the region. Just days prior, an attack occurred in Ohimini LGA, resulting in the deaths of four people. Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the local government, Adole Gabriel, stated that two farmers were killed on Monday, and another two were reported dead on Tuesday afternoon.
