A Mission of Support and Collaboration in Bauchi State
A high-level delegation from the World Bank and the AGILE National Project Coordinating Unit recently visited Bauchi State as part of an implementation support mission for the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project. This visit aimed to assess the progress of the initiative and provide on-the-ground support to ensure its successful execution.
The delegation, led by Mr. Malik Abuzolde, the World Bank’s Co-Task Team Leader for the project, was welcomed at the Ministry of Education by Honorable Commissioner of Education, Lawal Muhammad. In his opening remarks, the Commissioner described the visit as a crucial factual mission that allows partners to observe the project’s development firsthand.
He assured the delegation that Bauchi State is actively implementing all the necessary components outlined by the World Bank, with full backing from the state government. The Commissioner emphasized that the state is adopting an inclusive governance model to ensure smooth project execution and long-term success.
He also highlighted that the team’s visit serves as both a motivation and a checkmate to maintain accountability and drive high performance among the project stakeholders.
In response, Mr. Abuzolde explained that the primary objective of the mission was to assist the local team in understanding the challenges they face on the ground and to help accelerate the project’s implementation. He stressed that the ultimate goal is to ensure that the benefits of the AGILE project reach the girls and boys of Bauchi State.
Following the meeting, the team proceeded to inspect several key project sites and skill acquisition centers within the Bauchi metropolis. These locations included:
- Doya Women Centrealong Gombe Road
- Bauchi Technical College
- Government Girls’ College Bauchi
- Bakin Kura Women Centre
- Wayar Makafi Development Centre
These visits allowed the delegation to gain a comprehensive understanding of the project’s impact and the efforts being made to empower young people through education and skill development.
