A male suspect is currently being held at Old Kampala Police Station following an alleged attempt to access the Kasubi Tombs complex by scaling the perimeter wall using a wooden ladder. The incident has raised concerns about the security of this culturally significant site, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Owoyesigyire, confirmed the arrest on Friday, November 7, without providing specific details. He mentioned that the detainee, whose name was not disclosed, was found in possession of a matchbox and a container suspected to contain flammable liquid at the time of his arrest.
“We have a suspect in our custody in connection with the incident in Kasubi trading centre. We shall release the details as soon as our investigators file the report,” Owoyesigyire stated during a telephone interview.
In addition to the investigation, a security source revealed that the suspect will undergo a medical checkup to assess his mental status. This step is crucial in determining whether the individual had the capacity to understand the nature of his actions.
