My Ascent to Presidency: A Political Miracle – Jonathan

A Journey of Faith and Political Miracles

Former President Goodluck Jonathan recently shared his remarkable political journey, describing his rapid ascent from deputy governor to the presidency of Nigeria within just four years as nothing short of a miracle. He attributed this extraordinary feat to divine intervention, highlighting the role of faith in his life.

The event took place at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) in Lagos, where three books authored by journalist and former presidential spokesperson, Dr Reuben Abati, were publicly presented. Jonathan, who spoke on Friday, reflected on his political trajectory, stating, “My political journey looked like a political miracle. From deputy governor to becoming president of this country within four years, it was a miracle. It’s only God that made it possible.”

He praised Abati for his intellectual depth and dedication to preserving Nigeria’s political history through documentation. Jonathan emphasized the importance of such works in understanding the nation’s governance evolution.

The gathering was chaired by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who brought together an impressive array of statesmen, politicians, scholars, and industry leaders. Obasanjo commended Abati for his transformation from a journalist and commentator to a political aide, politician, and author. He remarked, “Reuben, you and your colleagues have done remarkably well.” He added, “You have achieved much and continue to inspire many through your intellect and dedication. You have made progress, but now it is time to achieve success.”

Obasanjo, who has known Abati for about three decades, praised him for embodying the values of truth, discipline, and purpose, which he described as essential attributes for meaningful achievement in life. “I am proud that, in my lifetime, I can say I have a son in Reuben who understands, who has been recognized, and who is firmly on the path to success,” he added.

In his response, Abati expressed gratitude to his mentors, colleagues, and family. He pledged to publish more revealing works on his experiences in government and his years working with President Jonathan.
