Continued Popularity of Osaka World Exposition Merchandise
Even after the conclusion of the Osaka World Exposition, several Japanese businesses have continued to sell items related to the event. The sustained demand for merchandise has led to extended sales periods and new product launches.
Kintetsu Department Store Co., one of the major retailers in the region, has kept its official shop open beyond the originally planned closure date of October 13. This was the final day of the six-month expo, which attracted over 25 million visitors. The store has added items that were exclusively available at its shop within the event venue and is also planning to release new products.
At a press conference on October 10, Kintetsu Department Store President Takahiro Kajima expressed his belief that the excitement surrounding the expo will continue for some time. He mentioned that the store aims to keep promoting the festival even after achieving its sales target in August.
Another significant department store in Osaka, operated by Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Stores Co., expanded its floor space dedicated to expo goods in November. This move reflects the ongoing interest in the merchandise and the event’s lasting appeal.
West Japan Railway Co. has also decided to maintain its official expo stores at key transport hubs such as Osaka and Shin-Osaka stations. These locations remain popular among visitors and locals alike, offering a convenient place to purchase expo-related items.
MaruzenJunkudo Bookstores Co. has set up a section for expo merchandise at a store in the city. This addition highlights the diverse range of products available, from books to souvenirs, catering to different interests and preferences.
In addition, major sushi restaurant chain operator Kura Sushi Inc. has recently introduced selected dishes from a range of internationally inspired cuisines that were previously available only at its restaurant located at the expo site. These dishes are now being offered at its nationwide outlets, allowing more people to experience the global flavors showcased during the event.
Official merchandise featuring the expo’s popular mascot, Myaku-Myaku, will continue to be sold until the end of March. The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition has approved the sale of these items at shops and online beyond October 13 due to the strong demand.
The Osaka World Exposition, held on the artificial island of Yumeshima, featured 158 countries and regions. It attracted large crowds through exhibitions that showcased advanced technologies and cultures from around the globe. The event provided a unique platform for cultural exchange and technological innovation, leaving a lasting impact on visitors and participants alike.
As the popularity of the expo continues to grow, it is clear that the legacy of the event extends far beyond its official closing date. Businesses across various sectors are capitalizing on the sustained interest, ensuring that the spirit of the expo lives on for months to come.
