Mahama Breaks Ground on Wenchi-Bole-Wa Road Revival

President Mahama Launches Major Road Rehabilitation Project

President John Dramani Mahama has officially cut the sod for the rehabilitation of the 195-kilometre Wenchi-Bole-Wa road. This initiative is part of the government’s Big Push Infrastructure Programme, aimed at improving transportation networks across Ghana. The ceremony took place in Sawla, located in the Savannah Region.

During the event, President Mahama emphasized the significance of this project. He highlighted that the rehabilitation of the Wenchi-Bole-Wa road will play a crucial role in reducing traffic congestion on the international route that connects Ghana with neighboring countries such as Burkina Faso and Mali. This improvement is expected to enhance trade and travel between these nations.

In addition to the Wenchi-Bole-Wa road, the president announced that the Fufulso-Sawla road will also be included in the rehabilitation project. This expansion is intended to further ease traffic and improve connectivity in the region.

Focus on Bole Town Roads

President Mahama also mentioned that the roads within Bole town will be rehabilitated by the contractor. As a native of Bole, the president expressed his personal commitment to improving infrastructure in his hometown. He stated:

“For my own hometown Bole, the contractor had been asked to rehabilitate Bole town roads.”

This move reflects the government’s effort to prioritize local development while addressing broader national infrastructure needs.

Future Projects: Bole-Chache Road

Looking ahead, the president revealed that he plans to cut the sod for the Bole-Chache road soon. This road is considered vital due to recent developments on the Côte d’Ivoire side of the border. Specifically, the authorities in Côte d’Ivoire have constructed a new bridge over the Black Volta River.

President Mahama stressed the importance of reconstructing the Bole-Chache road to ensure it becomes an efficient international trade route between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire. This project is expected to boost economic ties and facilitate smoother cross-border movement.

Broader Implications

The rehabilitation of these roads is not just about improving physical infrastructure; it is also about fostering regional cooperation and economic growth. By investing in key transport corridors, the government aims to create a more connected and prosperous country.

The projects also serve as a reminder of the government’s commitment to addressing long-standing infrastructure challenges. With the Big Push Infrastructure Programme, there is a clear focus on modernizing roads, bridges, and other critical transport links.

Conclusion

As the rehabilitation of the Wenchi-Bole-Wa road begins, it marks a significant step forward in Ghana’s efforts to build a stronger and more resilient infrastructure network. With additional projects like the Fufulso-Sawla and Bole-Chache roads in the pipeline, the country is taking meaningful action to support economic development and regional integration.
