Police Recruitment: IG Kanja Expands Centers, Adds New Venues for Nov 17 Exercise

Key Updates and Corrections to the National Police Service Recruitment

The National Police Service (NPS) has released an official notice detailing important updates and corrections to the nationwide recruitment of police constables, which is scheduled to take place on Monday, November 17, 2025. The notice, signed by Inspector General Douglas Kanja, confirms that the recruitment drive, initially advertised on October 31, 2025, in various media outlets, will proceed as planned across the country.

However, several adjustments have been made to the list of recruitment centres. These changes aim to ensure a smooth and transparent process for all applicants.

Adjustments to Recruitment Centres

One significant update is that ex-National Youth Service (NYS) candidates can now choose to present themselves either at their respective home sub-county recruitment centres or at an additional venue located at the NYS Headquarters in Ruaraka, Nairobi County. This centre had been inadvertently omitted from the earlier advertisement.

In addition, the updated list includes corrections to certain sub-county recruitment centres in Kajiado and Narok counties. Specifically:

  • In Kajiado County, the Kajiado West sub-county recruitment will take place at Ole Polos.
  • The Elangata Wuas sub-county exercise will be held at the DCC’s Office in Elangata Wuas.
  • In Narok County, the Narok West sub-county recruitment centre has been corrected to Ng’osuani Centre.

“All other information contained in the earlier advertisement remains unchanged,” the notice dated November 7 reads.

Importance of Noting the Changes

The National Police Service has urged members of the public, especially interested applicants, to take note of these changes to ensure a smooth and transparent recruitment process. The recruitment is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security services and enhance the country’s policing capacity.

The event will take place simultaneously in 422 designated centres across the country, and all applicants are required to report to their respective venues by 8 am. To ensure transparency and fairness, senior police officers and representatives from relevant government agencies will oversee the exercise.

Eligibility Criteria

The IG emphasized that the recruitment process will be free and open to all qualified Kenyans who meet the minimum entry requirements. Applicants must be Kenyan citizens aged between 18 and 28 years, possess a valid Kenya national identity card, and have attained a minimum grade of D+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), with at least a D+ in English or Kiswahili.

Candidates must also be physically and medically fit, with the minimum height requirements set at 5 feet 8 inches for men and 5 feet 3 inches for women.

Legal Context

The announcement followed a High Court ruling declaring that the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has no power to recruit, train, employ, assign, promote, suspend, or dismiss members of the NPS. The court stated that such functions fall exclusively under the independent command of the IG as provided in Article 245 of the Constitution.

Conclusion

These updates highlight the NPS’s commitment to ensuring a fair, transparent, and efficient recruitment process. By addressing previous oversights and clarifying key details, the service aims to provide a clear path for eligible candidates to join the ranks of the police force.
