AnambraDecide2025: EFCC Snaps Three Vote Buyers

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken action against three individuals accused of engaging in vote buying during the recent Anambra State governorship election. The anti-graft agency confirmed the arrests through a post on its official Facebook page, highlighting the seriousness of the allegations.

This development comes after claims from the African Action Congress candidate, Chioma Ifemeludike, who reported that there was a significant amount of vote buying taking place during the election. According to her statements, some voters were reportedly selling their votes for amounts ranging between ₦3,000 and ₦5,000. She also mentioned that these activities were allegedly supervised by unknown agents, raising concerns about the integrity of the electoral process.

The EFCC’s statement provided details about the arrests, specifying that the suspects were apprehended in different areas across the state. Here are the details:

  • Emeka Ilokasia, arrested at Ward 2, Njikoka Local Government Area
  • Nwachukwu Loretta, arrested at Ward 2 (008), Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government Area
  • Emuka Chuwudi, arrested at Umunachi Village, Dunukofia Local Government Area

All three suspects were caught while participating in the governorship election held on Saturday, November 8, 2025. The EFCC emphasized that these arrests were made as part of an ongoing investigation into the alleged vote-buying activities.

In addition to the arrests, the EFCC has indicated that the suspects will face legal consequences once the investigations are complete. This move underscores the agency’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring fair elections.
