Disruption on the Elizabeth Line and Other Rail Services
Passengers traveling on the Elizabeth line are being advised to prepare for all-day disruptions following a broken track in west London. The issue has caused significant delays and cancellations, affecting commuters heading to work this morning.
The broken track was detected in the Hayes and Harlington area, leading to slower train speeds over the faulty section. This has resulted in fewer trains running between Reading, Heathrow Terminal 5, and London Paddington station. The disruption is expected to last throughout the day, with no quick resolution in sight.
National Rail confirmed that the speed restriction over the defective track means fewer trains can operate through the affected area. As a result, services between Reading, Heathrow Terminal 5, and London Paddington may be delayed, cancelled, or revised.
One frustrated commuter shared their experience on social media, stating, “And the Elizabeth line once again succeeds at making my morning commute 1000% more painful than it needs to be.” Another wrote on X: “Shock the Elizabeth line is down this morning.”
According to the latest Transport for London (TfL) travel status update, the section between Reading and West Drayton on the Elizabeth line is the most affected, while the rest of the line continues to offer good service.
Here is a full list of all the routes where severe delays are expected:
- Elizabeth line between Reading / Maidenhead / Heathrow Terminal 4 and Abbey Wood
- Great Western Railway between Penzance / Plymouth / Paignton / Exeter St Davids / Weston-super-Mare / Carmarthen / Swansea / Cardiff Central / Hereford / Great Malvern / Cheltenham Spa / Bristol Temple Meads / Bedywn / Banbury / Oxford / Didcot Parkway / Reading and London Paddington
- Heathrow Express between Heathrow Terminal 5 and London Paddington
Other Affected Rail Services
In addition to the Elizabeth line, other rail services are also experiencing delays. The Bakerloo and Jubilee lines are facing minor disruptions due to train cancellations, while the Circle and District lines are affected by another track fault at Tower Hill.
The Piccadilly line remains suspended at the western end of the route between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge because of the risk of damage to train wheels from significant leaf fall.
Elsewhere on the rail network, passengers have been advised not to travel on Thameslink, Southern, and Gatwick Express services after a fault with the signaling system between East Croydon and Purley. Gatwick Express services are currently suspended, while Southern and Thameslink trains could face cancellations or delays of up to 90 minutes. The disruption is expected to last until 6pm.
Compensation for Delays
If your train is delayed by 15 minutes or more, you might be eligible for compensation under the Delay Repay scheme. To claim, visit your rail operator’s website and keep a record of your travel and arrival times, along with your ticket.
