Khosru Calls on Parties to Prioritize People’s Mandate Over Consensus Debates

BNP Leader Calls for Unity and Focus on People’s Mandate

In a recent address, BNP senior leader Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury emphasized the importance of political parties moving beyond internal debates and focusing on securing the people’s support through the upcoming national election. He stated that the agreement reached among political factions is now closed, and the next step should be to present these agreed-upon issues to the public.

“Let’s go to the election and take these issues of consensus to people,” he said during a discussion. The BNP leader encouraged any party with specific demands or future plans to take them directly to the people and seek their backing. He highlighted that no individual, government, commission, or political party can determine the actions of the next parliament — only the people hold that power.

Khosru, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, stressed the need to return to democratic practices. “No one has given us the authority to sit in Dhaka and make decisions for the nation. That power belongs to the people. We must come back to democratic norms and respect that,” he added.

The event was organized by the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh, at its auditorium to celebrate the organization’s 55th founding anniversary. During the discussion, Khosru also spoke about BNP’s vision for a technology-driven Bangladesh, emphasizing that skills and innovation should be the foundation of sustainable national development.

Referring to the development vision of late President Ziaur Rahman, Khosru noted that investment is not an issue if good projects are planned. “Ziaur Rahman used to say, ‘Money is not a problem as the problem is whether you have a good project. Bring a good project and there will be no shortage of investors, local or international,'” he recalled.

He further explained that the country needs projects that add value, ensure returns on investment, create jobs, and protect the environment. “These are the kinds of projects we must work on,” he said.

Emphasizing Education and Healthcare Investment

Khosru also stressed the importance of investing in education and healthcare. “If we don’t invest in these two sectors, all our talk about demographic dividends will be meaningless. To benefit from our population, people must be healthy and well-educated. Everyone should have options to choose the path they prefer,” he said.

He pointed out that skilled workers often earn more than professionals. “A plumber abroad can earn more than a doctor or an engineer. An electrician earns a good income too. So we must invest heavily in these areas,” he added.

BNP’s Chinese Chapter Observes ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’

The BNP leader also mentioned the activities of the party’s Chinese chapter, which observed ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day.’ This event highlights the party’s commitment to unity and solidarity across different regions.

Conclusion

Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury’s speech underscored the need for political leaders to focus on the people’s mandate rather than internal disputes. His call for investment in education, healthcare, and skilled labor reflects a broader vision for sustainable development in Bangladesh. By emphasizing democratic principles and the importance of public support, he aims to guide the nation toward a more prosperous and inclusive future.
