A New Era for COCIN and National Unity
The re-election of Reverend Dr Amos Musa Mohzo as the national president of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) has sparked a wave of optimism across Nigeria. This development, according to Borno South Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, is not only significant for the Christian community but also serves as a unifying force among different faiths in the country.
Reverend Mohzo, who hails from Ngoshe-Sama, a remote village in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, has made history by becoming the first indigenous leader to hold this position for both his first and second tenures. Traditionally, this role has been occupied by individuals from the Plateau state, making his election a landmark moment in the church’s history.
A Milestone for Religious Leadership
The Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) was established in 1904 in the Wase community of Jos, the capital of Plateau State. Over the years, it has grown into a prominent religious institution with a strong presence throughout Nigeria and beyond. The recent re-election of Reverend Mohzo marks a significant shift in leadership dynamics within the church, reflecting a broader movement towards inclusivity and diversity.
Senator Ndume, who comes from a family that includes both Muslim and Christian backgrounds, expressed his pride in the achievement. He emphasized that this victory is not just for the people of Gwoza and Borno State, but for the entire nation. “This is because the National President is somebody I know with integrity, honesty, and an unquestionable character,” he stated.
A Leader of Character and Dedication
Reverend Dr Amos Musa Mohzo, born on November 13, 1964, has a humble background that contrasts sharply with his current exalted position. His journey from a small village in Borno State to the helm of COCIN is a testament to his deep humility, unshakable faith, and steadfast dedication to the service of God and humanity.
Ndume highlighted that these qualities were the reasons behind Mohzo’s re-election. “He is a man of deep humility, unshakable faith, and steadfast dedication to the service of God and humanity, which I believe was the reason he was given the second chance to lead the noble Church.”
A Message of Congratulation and Encouragement
In a press statement, Senator Ndume extended his congratulations to all members of COCIN in Nigeria and those in the diaspora. He praised their decision to give Reverend Mohzo a second chance, regardless of his origin. “Let me also use this opportunity to congratulate all members of COCIN in Nigeria and those in the diaspora, for giving Reverend Mohzo a second chance, irrespective of where he hails from,” he said.
Ndume also prayed for God’s wisdom and guidance for the newly re-elected President, expressing confidence in his ability to lead the church effectively.
A Step Toward National Unity
The re-election of Reverend Dr Amos Musa Mohzo represents more than just a change in leadership; it symbolizes a step toward greater unity among Nigeria’s diverse communities. As a leader who transcends regional and ethnic boundaries, Mohzo’s presidency offers hope for a more inclusive and harmonious society.
His election is a reminder that leadership should be based on merit, character, and the ability to bring people together. It is a message that resonates beyond the walls of the church, inspiring a sense of shared purpose and collective responsibility among all Nigerians.
As the new chapter begins, the eyes of the nation are on Reverend Mohzo, hoping that his leadership will pave the way for a more united and prosperous Nigeria.
