Angelina Jolie’s Bulletproof Visit to War-Torn Kherson

Angelina Jolie, a well-known Hollywood actor and filmmaker, recently made an unexpected trip to Kherson, a southern Ukrainian city that has been heavily impacted by the ongoing conflict. Her visit was part of a humanitarian initiative aimed at supporting civilians affected by the war.

Humanitarian Efforts in Kherson

During her stay, Jolie visited an obstetrics and gynecology hospital as well as a children’s hospital in Kherson. She also met with medical professionals and volunteers in Mykolaiv. These visits were organized by the Legacy of War Foundation, an international charity dedicated to aiding those affected by war and conflict. The foundation’s efforts focus on providing essential support to communities in crisis, especially in regions where the war has had a devastating impact.

Kherson: A City Under Siege

Kherson, one of the cities Jolie visited, is located in a critical frontline area and has been a major target for Russian military operations. Much of the region is currently under Russian occupation, and the city continues to face daily bombardments. Despite the ongoing danger, the residents of Kherson have shown remarkable resilience and determination.

A former member of the Kherson city council, Vitaliy Bohdanov, shared a photo on Facebook that featured Jolie. In the image, she is seen wearing a bulletproof vest adorned with a patch symbolizing Ukraine. This gesture highlighted her solidarity with the people of the country and their ongoing struggle.

Jolie’s Message of Hope

Through the Legacy of War Foundation, Jolie expressed her admiration for the people of Mykolaiv and Kherson. She stated, “The residents of Mykolaiv and Kherson live in danger every day, but they never give up.” She emphasized the importance of civilian protection, noting that many governments around the world have failed to provide adequate support during times of conflict.

Jolie continued, “Though the nearly three-year-long war has left them visibly exhausted, their determination is clear.” She highlighted the desire of the local population for safety, peace, and the chance to rebuild their lives. “Mykolaiv and Kherson are among many communities living in prolonged conflict,” she added. “Amid the brutal competition of weapons and technology, diplomacy and civilian protection must not be neglected.”

Previous Visits and Continued Support

Jolie’s recent visit to Kherson was not her first to Ukraine. In May 2022, early in the war, she made an unannounced trip to Lviv, a western Ukrainian city. During that visit, she spent time with volunteers and children, further demonstrating her commitment to supporting those affected by the conflict.

Her actions have drawn attention from both the media and the public, highlighting the importance of raising awareness about the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. Through her work with the Legacy of War Foundation, Jolie continues to advocate for the needs of civilians caught in the crossfire of war.
