Nairobi – The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has issued a notice regarding an upcoming traffic disruption on a major road in the capital city. The authority has informed the public that from Tuesday, November 18, to Wednesday, December 10, there will be significant changes to traffic flow along Ngong Road near the Junction Mall area.
In a public announcement made on Thursday, November 6, KURA revealed that the disruption is part of ongoing construction efforts for a flyover project. The traffic interruption will primarily affect nighttime hours, with restrictions in place from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM, excluding Sundays. This period is necessary for the installation of a steel structure that will support the new flyover.
To minimize the impact on daily commuters, KURA has introduced alternative routes. Motorists are advised to use the diversion between Nairobi City County Training School and Kenya Science Campus. This route is designed to allow two-way movement within the affected section of the road, ensuring smoother traffic flow during the construction phase.
The authority emphasized that the temporary closure is essential for the completion of the flyover, which is part of a larger initiative to improve urban mobility in Nairobi. “The disruption is to allow for the construction of the steel structure for the flyover currently under construction,” KURA stated. “The works will be carried out between 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM daily except on Sunday. Traffic will be diverted between Nairobi City Training School and Kenya Science Campus to accommodate two-way traffic within the section.”
Motorists are urged to exercise caution when approaching the construction zone. KURA also highlighted the importance of following all traffic signs and directions provided by police officers and traffic marshals who will be present at the site. “We apologize for any inconvenience caused as we continue to transform urban mobility,” the authority added.
This development comes months after KURA announced plans in July to construct footbridges along the Ngong Road–Karen Road corridor. These structures are intended to address concerns raised by the public regarding the lack of pedestrian infrastructure following recent road expansions and modernization efforts.
