FG unveils strategy to halt illegal migration

Addressing Illegal Immigration and Youth Employment

Alhaji Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, the Minister of Labour and Employment, has announced a new initiative aimed at educating the youth about the risks associated with illegal immigration. During a speech in Abuja, the minister highlighted the importance of legal migration and the support systems being developed to facilitate it.

The minister emphasized that the government is working on an effective awareness campaign to dissuade individuals from engaging in illegal migration. He explained that the goal is to inform people about the dangers involved and to demonstrate the benefits of legal migration.

“We are trying to put in place an efficient publicity to discourage people from going into that and to show them why we should not go into illegal migration because facilities are being provided for legalizing this migration and if we do it both of us stand to benefit from this exercise,” he said.

The Benefits of Legal Migration

Dingyadi pointed out that legal migration offers numerous advantages for both the migrants and the country. By following the proper channels, individuals can access safer and more structured opportunities abroad. This approach not only protects the rights of the migrants but also ensures that their contributions are recognized and valued.

The minister also stressed the importance of equipping the youth with essential skills. He argued that by acquiring technical and vocational training, young people can enhance their employability and reduce the overall unemployment rate in the country.

“Please I encourage you to do more in this area because we have so many young men and women out there looking for skills so that we can reduce the level of unemployment in our country,” he said.

Focus on Skill Development

Skill development is a critical component of the government’s strategy to address unemployment. The minister called on educational institutions, private sectors, and community organizations to collaborate in providing training programs that align with the needs of the labor market.

He noted that many young people are eager to learn and improve their prospects, but they often lack access to quality education and training opportunities. By investing in skill development, the government aims to create a more competitive and productive workforce.

Challenges and Opportunities

Despite the efforts being made, the minister acknowledged that challenges remain. These include limited resources, inadequate infrastructure, and a lack of awareness among the youth about available opportunities. However, he expressed confidence that through sustained efforts and partnerships, these obstacles can be overcome.

The minister also encouraged the youth to take advantage of the existing platforms and initiatives designed to support their growth and development. He urged them to seek out information and engage with relevant stakeholders to maximize their potential.

Conclusion

The government’s focus on sensitizing the youth against illegal immigration and promoting skill development reflects a proactive approach to addressing key socio-economic issues. By emphasizing legal migration and investing in education, the country can create a more stable and prosperous future for its citizens.
