Among those rescued was Warrant Officer John Richard, a member of the 6 Brigade Band. This incident occurred as part of an operation conducted by the Joint Task Force (JTF) under the codename Operation Whirl Stroke. Despite the successful rescue, two individuals remain unaccounted for, with ongoing efforts to locate them.
The operation was initiated following credible intelligence about kidnapping activities near the Quarantine Checkpoint. Maj. Gen. Moses Gara, the JTF Commander, provided details about the events leading up to the rescue. According to the statement issued on Thursday, troops received information about the ongoing activities while conducting a mobile patrol along the Zaki-Biam–Wukari road.

Gara explained that the kidnappers were reportedly wearing police uniforms, attempting to mislead unsuspecting road users. Upon receiving the intelligence, the troops swiftly mobilized to the scene. As they approached, the kidnappers fled into nearby bushes, creating chaos among the group.
The soldiers pursued the suspects deep into the forest, where they managed to locate and rescue 10 kidnapped individuals. Among the rescued were members of the 6 Brigade Band, including Warrant Officer John Richard. However, the search for the remaining two victims continues.
Ongoing Efforts and Military Response
The rescued victims are currently in safe custody and undergoing debriefing before being handed over to the appropriate authorities. The JTF Commander praised the troops for their gallantry and swift response during the operation. He emphasized the importance of maintaining high morale and professionalism in all future operations.
