Foreigners Arrested for Sex and Drugs on Koh Phangan

Recent Arrests Highlight Rising Concerns Over Misconduct and Drug Use on Koh Phangan

Recent events on the tourist island of Koh Phangan have drawn significant attention from local authorities and the public. Two separate incidents involving foreign nationals have led to arrests, raising concerns about inappropriate behavior and drug-related activities in the area.

Israeli Couple Arrested for Inappropriate Behavior at Waterfall

In one case, an Israeli couple was arrested after a video of them engaging in indecent behavior at the Wang Sai waterfall went viral online. The incident occurred in broad daylight, sparking public outrage over the couple’s actions and their apparent disrespect for the natural attraction.

The two 39-year-old Israeli nationals were summoned to the Koh Phangan immigration office for questioning on Wednesday. During the interrogation, the man and woman admitted to the act and confirmed that the video was authentic. As a result, they were charged with committing an obscene act and engaging in lewd behavior. They were then handed over to the Koh Phangan police station for further legal action.

This incident has highlighted the growing concern among locals and authorities about maintaining respect for public spaces and cultural norms on the island.

Drug Party Leads to Arrests of Two Foreign Nationals

In another incident, tourist police were alerted by a local resident about suspicious activity at a rented house on the island. Police, posing as joggers, monitored the premises and discovered a drug-fueled party taking place. They quickly called for additional reinforcements and conducted a raid on the property.

Upon arrival, officers found the front door open and observed two foreign men seated at a table, handling a white powdery substance. When the officers approached, the men attempted to hide the substance and fled into a bedroom, where they were eventually caught.

The individuals arrested were identified as Roman Maslov, a 26-year-old Russian national, and Ugo Leonardo Gessa, a 28-year-old French national. A search of the house uncovered 3.14 grams of cocaine and a Marquis test kit used for drug detection. These items were seized as evidence.

Maslov, who was the tenant of the house, admitted to purchasing the drugs from an unidentified Thai man near a local hotel. He claimed that Gessa was a friend he had met on the island. Maslov was charged with possession of a Category 2 narcotic and drug use, while Gessa was charged with drug use. Both were handed over to the Koh Phangan police station for legal proceedings.

Ongoing Investigations and Crackdown on Crime

Authorities have stated that further investigations are underway to trace the source of the narcotics involved in the case. This comes as part of a broader effort by the Tourist Police Division 3 to crack down on crime and drug-related activities during the island’s peak festive period, which includes events like Halloween and Loy Krathong.

These recent arrests underscore the challenges faced by local law enforcement in maintaining order and safety on Koh Phangan, especially during busy tourist seasons. The incidents also serve as a reminder to visitors to respect local laws and cultural values.
