Nigerian Chef Hilda Baci Makes History with Second Guinness World Record

Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda Baci has once again made headlines by receiving her second Guinness World Record plaque. This time, the recognition is for preparing the world’s largest pot of jollof rice, a dish that holds deep cultural significance in West Africa.

According to Guinness World Records, Baci successfully cooked 8,780kg (19,356 pounds) of jollof rice during a large-scale cookout in Lagos in September. This impressive feat has now been officially confirmed as the largest ever recorded. The event not only showcased Baci’s culinary skills but also highlighted the global appeal of traditional Nigerian cuisine.

This achievement marks Baci’s second world record, following her first in May 2023 when she completed a 93-hour and 11-minute cooking marathon. With these two records, Baci has become Nigeria’s first and most decorated chef to hold multiple Guinness World Records. Her accomplishments have placed her at the forefront of culinary innovation and excellence in the country.

Baci shared images of her new plaques on Instagram, celebrating her double recognition. She described the milestone as a story of “faith, fire, and history.” In her posts, she emphasized that both records were a celebration of Nigeria’s creativity and culinary heritage.

“Our plaques are finally here!!! Two records. Two plaques. One story of faith, fire, and history. Twice, God showed up for me. Twice, we made history for Nigeria,” she wrote.

She continued: “And not just any records, two of the biggest culinary records ever set. Together with Gino, we created something bigger than ourselves, a story that reached over five billion people and reminded the world what’s possible when passion meets purpose.”

Baci also quoted Isaiah 61:7, reflecting on how her journey was proof that “instead of shame, you will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance.” She added, “And so you will inherit a double portion in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours.”

The jollof rice event drew an enormous crowd, with over 20,000 food lovers, celebrities, and influencers gathering to witness the historic moment. Every portion of the massive dish was distributed to guests and charity groups, ensuring that the event aligned with Guinness World Records’ verification standards.

A Celebration of Culinary Excellence

Baci’s latest achievement underscores the growing influence of Nigerian cuisine on the global stage. Jollof rice, a staple dish in many West African countries, has gained international recognition, and Baci’s efforts have played a significant role in promoting its popularity worldwide.

Her dedication to her craft and her ability to push boundaries have earned her respect from both local and international audiences. By setting records that highlight the richness of Nigerian culture, Baci continues to inspire others in the culinary world.

As she celebrates her second Guinness World Record, Baci remains focused on her mission to elevate Nigerian cuisine and share it with the world. Her journey serves as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved through passion, perseverance, and a deep connection to one’s roots.
