Strategic Partnership Between Islamic University College, Ghana and Dagbon Kingdom
In a significant development aimed at improving educational opportunities in the Dagbon Kingdom and the Northern Region of Ghana, the Islamic University College, Ghana (IUCG) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with traditional authorities. This collaboration seeks to enhance access to quality education and empower the youth of the region.
The MoU was signed on the campus of the tertiary institution in Accra, with the Mion Lana Alhassan Mahama, Overlord of Mion, representing the Dagbon Kingdom. On the IUCG side, the agreement was signed by Dr. Hassan Kamal Ezzat, the President of the university, and witnessed by Dr. Hussein Ibrahim, Vice President for Academic Affairs. The signing marked a milestone in the partnership between the institution and the traditional leadership of Dagbon.
Under the terms of the MoU, which became effective from the date of signing, both parties have committed themselves to the success of the agreement. The IUCG, which currently holds exclusive rights over its assets, facilities, intellectual property, and human resources, has pledged to make these available for the implementation of the MoU. This includes its affiliate Senior High Schools (male and female) across the country, which play a crucial role in delivering education.
The initiative aims to ensure that the youth of Dagbon and all citizens of Northern Ghana have access to quality education. It also provides an opportunity for individuals who wish to pursue education through the royal houses of Dagbon or directly. By doing so, the partnership hopes to address the longstanding issue of inadequate educational infrastructure in the region.
Traditional authorities in Ghana, particularly those from the Dagbon Kingdom and other groups, are encouraged to support the IUCG by enrolling their children and wards for education and future empowerment. In return, traditional areas that send students to the institution will be eligible for attractive bursaries and other benefits.
It is important to note that the MoU is a voluntary agreement focused on youth education and empowerment. It does not impose any legal obligations on either party or the institutions involved. The collaboration is based on mutual respect and shared goals of transforming the educational landscape in Dagbon and the Northern Region.
This partnership represents a step forward in bridging the gap between modern educational institutions and traditional leadership structures. By combining the strengths of both entities, the IUCG and the Dagbon Kingdom aim to create a more inclusive and equitable educational environment for the youth of the region.
Through this collaboration, there is hope for a brighter future for the students of Dagbon and the broader Northern Region. The focus on education and empowerment aligns with global efforts to ensure that every individual has the opportunity to reach their full potential. As the partnership progresses, it is expected to serve as a model for similar collaborations in other parts of the country.
