Traffic Advisory Issued for Lagos Women Run 2025
The Lagos State Government has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory in preparation for the 10th edition of the Lagos Women Run, which is set to take place on Saturday, November 8, 2025, starting at 6:00 a.m. This annual event, organized by the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) in collaboration with event organizers, will see participants race a 10-kilometre course from Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) to Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.
As part of the preparations, several key routes will experience partial road closures. These include TBS, Water Board, Old NITEL, Outer Marina, Officers Mess, Bonny Camp Bridge, State House, Ahmadu Bello Way, Akin Adesola Street, Falomo Bridge, Falomo Roundabout, Awolowo Road, Onikan Roundabout, and Mobolaji Johnson Arena. The closures are aimed at ensuring the safety of participants and other road users during the event, which draws women from various backgrounds and fitness levels.
Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Commissioner for Transportation, emphasized that these measures are temporary and will be lifted gradually as the race progresses. He urged motorists to exercise patience and cooperate with traffic officials during this period. Osiyemi also highlighted the presence of traffic management officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and Lagos State Neighbourhood Corps (LSNC) along the routes to manage vehicular movement and assist drivers.
To help ease traffic flow, Osiyemi provided specific alternative routes for motorists. For instance, those traveling from Ozumba Mbadiwe Road toward the Third Mainland Bridge are advised to divert through Bonny Camp to Onikan Underpass, then proceed via Marina Exit to Force Road to connect Outer Marina and rejoin the bridge. Similarly, drivers coming from Apongbon heading to Ikoyi are encouraged to use Odunlami Street to link Igbosere Road, then proceed through Moloney Street to reach Ikoyi Road.
Osiyemi noted that the Lagos Women Run has become a significant event in the state’s sporting calendar. It promotes fitness, gender inclusion, and social bonding among women. “The Lagos Women Run is not just about fitness; it’s about empowerment, unity, and showcasing the spirit of Lagos women. We are proud to support this initiative,” he said.
The commissioner assured residents that normal vehicular movement would resume immediately after the conclusion of the event. Additionally, adequate security and emergency services will be in place throughout the duration of the race to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants and spectators.
