A Night of Music and Celebration at the 21st Africa Movie Academy Awards

The 21st edition of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) is set to be a grand celebration of African cinema, with over 500 film practitioners from across the continent and the diaspora confirmed to attend. Scheduled to take place on Sunday, November 9, 2025, the event will be held at the Balmoral Convention Centre inside the Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja GRA, Lagos. This year’s ceremony promises to be an unforgettable night, featuring top-tier musical performances and the presence of notable figures from both the entertainment and film industries.

The Chief Operating Officer of AMAA, Mr. Tony Anih, recently shared details about the upcoming event at the AMAA secretariat in Ikeja, GRA, Lagos. He highlighted that the 21st edition will be elevated by performances from some of the most prominent music stars in African genres. The technical director of AMAA, Mr. Kingsley James, expressed confidence that the event will live up to its reputation as a memorable occasion.

James emphasized that the selection of performers was done with great care, ensuring that each act brings a unique flair to the night. “We have an impeccable and African lineup that would wow all attendees,” he said. Among the highlights is Made Kuti, the talented Afrobeat singer and multi-instrumentalist, who is also the grandson of Fela Anikulapo Kuti, the legendary founder of Afrobeat. His performance is expected to draw a lot of attention.

In addition to Made Kuti, other musical acts include DJ Kenchello and the Ebony band, both of whom are set to deliver electrifying performances that will keep the audience engaged throughout the evening.

A Gathering of Nollywood Stars and Dignitaries

The AMAA ceremony will not only showcase the best in African cinema but will also welcome a host of Nollywood stars and dignitaries from various fields. Their presence is expected to add to the prestige and excitement of the event.

On Friday, November 7, the Africa Film Academy (AFA), the organizers of AMAA, will host the Africa Fashion Show in Lagos. This event marks the beginning of the Fashion Weekend in Lagos, Nigeria, and is expected to attract fashion enthusiasts and industry professionals alike.

Dr. Raymond Anyiam-Osigwe, a key figure in the AFA, spoke about the significance of the 21st edition of AMAA. He noted that the event is a major milestone for the African film industry, with the board of AFA committed to making it a memorable experience for all participants.

“We are not just going to be rolling out in a big way; we are intentional about making the 2025 edition one of the best AMAAs that Africans will celebrate. This has always been what our late sister and founder, Peace Maria Ogechi Anyiam-Osigwe, had been planning and wished for before her death, and we will actualize the dream to the glory of God, legacy of PMO, and lofty strides of the African film sector,” he said.
