Amansie West Police Moves to New Headquarters

A New Era of Security and Development in Amansie West

In a significant development for law enforcement and community safety, the Minerals Development Fund (MDF) has officially commissioned an ultra-modern office facility for police officers in the Manso Nkwanta Divisional Command within the Amansie West District. This initiative marks a major step forward in enhancing security infrastructure and improving operational conditions for police personnel serving in one of Ghana’s key mining regions.

The new office is part of the MDF’s broader strategy to support sustainable development and responsible mining practices. By investing in community infrastructure, the Fund aims to ensure that the benefits of mineral wealth are directly felt by local populations, particularly those living near mining sites.

Enhancing Police Capabilities and Community Safety

The modern facility has been handed over to the Ghana Police Service and is expected to significantly improve the working conditions for officers stationed in the area. With better accommodation and resources, police personnel will be better equipped to carry out their duties effectively, contributing to a more secure environment for residents and miners alike.

This project aligns with the MDF’s mission to foster responsible mining through strategic investments in social development, environmental protection, and community infrastructure. The Fund was established under the Minerals Development Fund Act, 2016 (Act 912), with the objective of channeling a portion of mineral royalties into projects that enhance the quality of life in mining communities.

Dr. Hannah Louisa Bisiw, Administrator of the MDF, emphasized the importance of this initiative during the commissioning ceremony. She highlighted that the project reflects the Fund’s commitment to using mining proceeds for tangible outcomes that promote peace, safety, and stability in affected areas.

Strengthening Security Infrastructure

Dr. Bisiw noted that mining districts often face heightened security challenges, and the MDF has prioritized supporting the Ghana Police Service to create a stable environment conducive to lawful mining activities and community harmony. She reiterated the Fund’s belief that sustainable development and responsible mining must be anchored on strong security structures that protect people, property, and the environment.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, praised the MDF for its proactive efforts in improving security infrastructure in the region. He acknowledged the progress made by the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) in combating criminal activities such as armed robberies and attacks on mobile money vendors. The new police office, he said, would further boost the effectiveness and morale of police officers.

“This commissioning is a significant milestone in our collective quest to ensure safety and stability in our communities,” he stated. “The new facility will not only motivate police officers but also strengthen security across the Amansie West District and its neighboring communities.”

Community Appreciation and Future Aspirations

Nana Bi-Kusi Appiah II, paramount chief of Manso Nkwanta traditional area, expressed deep gratitude to the MDF and the government for their continued support. He described the construction of the police office as a long-awaited intervention that would address accommodation challenges for officers and improve their operational readiness.

“We are extremely grateful to the Minerals Development Fund and the government for this timely intervention,” he said. “For years, Manso Nkwanta has struggled with inadequate security infrastructure, but this project brings renewed hope and confidence to our people.”

He also called for additional developmental projects, particularly in road infrastructure, education, and health, to complement the gains made in security enhancement.

A Unified Effort for Better Communities

The commissioning ceremony brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including traditional leaders, security officials, assembly members, representatives from the Minerals Development Fund, and residents of Manso Nkwanta. This collective effort underscores the importance of collaboration between government agencies, community leaders, and development partners in driving positive change.

As the MDF continues to invest in infrastructure and community development, the new police office in Manso Nkwanta stands as a testament to the power of strategic partnerships in creating safer, more prosperous communities.
