Major Fuel Smuggling Operation Unveiled in Katsina
A significant operation conducted by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has led to the interception of a tanker carrying 60,000 litres of petrol. The incident took place on September 30 when the NCS’s special task force, known as ‘Operation Whirlwind,’ stopped the vehicle on the Jibia Road in Katsina State. The tanker was suspected of being en route to the border area for smuggling purposes.
The National Coordinator of the task force, ACG Kola Oladeji, revealed the details of the operation during the handover of the seized tanker to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) in Katsina. This event was represented by the Commander of the Kano/Jigawa and Katsina axis, AC Sa’ad Isah-Yahaya.
According to Oladeji, this interception was part of a broader effort to combat the illicit diversion of petroleum products and enforce national energy regulations.
