A Life of Compassion and Sacrifice
A woman in her 50s, known for her dedication to helping those in need, has left behind a legacy of kindness and selflessness. Her journey came to an end after she made the decision to donate her organs following a tragic incident that led to her brain death.
On the 7th, the Korea Organ Donation Agency shared the news that Kim Chuk-bok, 59 years old, had donated her liver, both kidneys, and both corneas to five individuals at Central Veterans Hospital on the 3rd of last month before passing away. Her generous act ensured that her life would continue to impact others even after her own passed.
The Tragic Incident
Ms. Kim lost consciousness while eating on September 19th and was urgently transported to a hospital. Despite active medical treatment, she did not regain consciousness and fell into a brain-dead state. This devastating turn of events prompted her family to make a difficult but meaningful decision: to proceed with organ donation.
The family believed that rather than letting her go as she was, she could leave behind a good deed by saving other lives. This decision reflected their deep understanding of her compassionate nature and her lifelong commitment to helping others.
A Life of Service
Born in Seoul, Ms. Kim raised one son and two daughters while running a snack bar. Her life was marked by a strong sense of community and service. At the suggestion of the pastor of the church she attended, she also worked as a missionary for the past 10 years. She performed various good deeds, such as preparing meals for elderly people who could not take care of their own meals and delivering funds and goods to underprivileged families and orphanages.
Her actions were driven by a deep desire to help those less fortunate. She often went out of her way to ensure that others were cared for, whether through direct assistance or by organizing support for those in need.
A Final Farewell
In her final farewell, Ms. Kim’s daughter, Han Eun-hye, expressed her sorrow and regret. She said, “Mom, I had asked to see you in early September, but I kept postponing due to a busy schedule and ended up not seeing you, which weighs on my mind.” She added, “I don’t know if you were trying to say your final goodbye, but I think I will always have regrets during my life. Please watch over us from heaven, live happily, and take care. I love you.”
Her words reflect the deep emotional connection between mother and daughter, as well as the bittersweet reality of losing someone so loved and admired.
Legacy of Generosity
Kim Chuk-bok’s story is one of compassion, sacrifice, and the enduring power of human kindness. Her decision to donate her organs not only saved lives but also served as a testament to her character. Those who knew her speak of her as a kind-hearted individual who lived her life with purpose and dedication.
Her legacy will continue to inspire others, reminding us of the impact one person can have through acts of generosity and love. As her family mourns her loss, they also find comfort in knowing that her life continues to touch the lives of many through the gift of organ donation.
