Oti Region and World Vision Ghana Expand WASH Access in Three Districts

Partnership Between ORCC and World Vision Ghana to Enhance WASH Services

The Oti Regional Coordinating Council (ORCC) and World Vision Ghana have entered into a significant partnership through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU). This collaboration aims to improve access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services in three key districts within the region.

The initiative will specifically benefit the Kadjebi, Krachi Nchumuru, and Krachi West districts. These areas are expected to see notable improvements in water access and public health outcomes as a result of this partnership.

Rev. Harry Nii Kwatie Owoo, chief director of the ORCC, emphasized that the agreement reflects a shared commitment to enhancing public health and service delivery. He expressed gratitude to World Vision Ghana for their collaboration, stating that it would significantly support efforts in the areas of water, health, and sanitation.

“The Regional Coordinating Council will ensure effective coordination, monitoring, and supervision so that all activities align with established service delivery standards,” Rev. Owoo stated.

Mr Cephas Wedam, WASH programme manager at World Vision Ghana, highlighted that the MoU is designed to accelerate progress toward universal WASH coverage. He noted that achieving this goal requires strong partnerships and that World Vision Ghana is committed to complementing the work already being done by the districts.

Key Areas of Focus

The MoU outlines several joint efforts that will be undertaken as part of this partnership:

  • Infrastructure Development: Investing in the construction and maintenance of water supply systems, sanitation facilities, and related infrastructure.
  • Behaviour Change Campaigns: Educating communities on proper hygiene practices and encouraging sustainable habits.
  • Capacity Building: Training local staff and community members to manage and maintain WASH services effectively.
  • Sustainability Planning: Ensuring that the improvements made are long-lasting and adaptable to future challenges.

In addition to these core areas, the agreement also seeks to reinforce local systems and promote inclusion. It emphasizes the importance of child protection, accountability, and safeguarding children and vulnerable groups.

Commitment from District Assemblies

Representatives from the district assemblies have pledged to uphold the provisions of the MoU and ensure its successful implementation. Their involvement is crucial to the sustainability and effectiveness of the initiatives outlined in the agreement.

This partnership between the ORCC and World Vision Ghana represents a step forward in addressing the critical issues of water and sanitation in the region. By combining resources, expertise, and community engagement, the collaboration aims to create lasting positive change.
