Otti Boosts NYSC Allowance in Abia to N50,000

Governor Alex Otti Increases NYSC Allowances in Abia State

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has made a notable decision to significantly increase the monthly allowances for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving within the state. This move raises the payment from N4,000 to as much as N50,000, marking a substantial change in the support provided to young professionals.

According to a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Njoku Ukoha, the new allowance structure includes a base payment of N20,000 for all corps members in Abia. Those deployed to state government establishments will receive an additional N10,000, while medical and teaching corps members will earn an extra N30,000 per month. This adjustment is seen as a complementary measure to the Federal Government’s recent increase of N77,000 for NYSC members, aligning with Governor Otti’s broader vision to enhance youth empowerment and public sector capacity.

“This marks the first major adjustment after 27 years, reflecting Governor Otti’s commitment to youth empowerment and workforce development in Abia,” the statement emphasized. The government highlighted that this gesture is part of ongoing reforms aimed at making service more rewarding for corps members and encouraging young professionals to contribute meaningfully to the state’s development.

Enhancing Infrastructure and Support for Corps Members

The administration has also focused on improving the conditions for NYSC members by upgrading the Orientation Camp in Bende Local Government Area. This includes enhancements such as better internal roads, improved power supply, and updated facilities, despite the camp being a federal property. The governor believes that every institution or infrastructure within Abia, whether federal or state-owned, deserves attention because it is the people of Abia who benefit the most.

Otti’s government has implemented the Consolidated Health Salary Structure for health workers across the state and extended it to local government employees to align with federal standards. This initiative aims to boost morale and productivity among public servants.

Investment in Healthcare and Education

Approximately 35 per cent of the state’s budget is reportedly allocated to healthcare and education, sectors that the administration describes as “pillars of institutional capacity and human capital development.” This investment underscores the government’s focus on building a strong foundation for future growth and development in Abia.

“Governor Otti’s latest move sends a clear message: Abia State is serious about empowering youth, rewarding excellence, and building a future where service is truly valued,” the statement concluded.
