Police dismantle Cameroonian human trafficking network in Ogun

Major Arrest in Human Trafficking Case

The Ogun State Police Command has made a significant arrest in its ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking. Two members of a notorious Cameroonian syndicate have been taken into custody, accused of luring and kidnapping victims under the pretense of visa processing.

According to a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, the police received a distress call from a Cameroonian national who had been deceived into traveling to Nigeria on 29 September 2025. The individual was promised the opportunity to obtain a Canadian visa. Upon arrival, she and her younger sister were held hostage in a house located in Mowe, Ogun State.

The victim managed to escape and contacted the police, which led to the rescue of another victim, identified as Kengne Maeva. The two suspects arrested were Ndzana Kamga Isidore and Tingue Stephen.

Details of the Crime

During the investigation, it was discovered that the victims’ families had paid a ransom of 3,600,000 CFA francs into a Cameroonian bank account linked to the principal suspect, known as Donald, who is still at large.

The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has instructed all divisional police officers to remain vigilant and monitor similar criminal activities across the state. He also encouraged community stakeholders and Community Development Associations (CDAs) to report any suspicious behavior promptly to the authorities.

Commitment to Safety

The Ogun State Police Command has reaffirmed its dedication to protecting lives and property within the state. It has emphasized that criminal elements will not find any safe haven in the region.

Ongoing Efforts

To further enhance security, the police command has launched awareness campaigns aimed at educating the public about the dangers of human trafficking. These initiatives include community workshops, school programs, and media outreach.

Additionally, the police are collaborating with international agencies to track down the remaining suspect, Donald, and bring him to justice. This collaboration includes sharing intelligence and coordinating operations with law enforcement agencies in Cameroon and Canada.

Community Involvement

Community involvement plays a crucial role in the fight against human trafficking. Local leaders and organizations are being trained to recognize the signs of trafficking and to respond effectively. This includes identifying potential victims and providing them with support and resources.

The police have also set up hotlines for residents to report any suspicious activities. These hotlines are staffed by trained personnel who can provide immediate assistance and guidance.

Conclusion

The recent arrests mark a significant step forward in the battle against human trafficking in Ogun State. However, the police emphasize that this is just the beginning. Continued vigilance, community cooperation, and international collaboration are essential to ensure that such crimes are eradicated.
