A Call for Unity and Global Support
Founder of the Caring and Sharing Sufi Centre, Ibadan, Dr. Rasheed Akinbile, has made a compelling appeal to the United States government under President Donald Trump, urging them to support Nigeria in its ongoing efforts to combat insecurity. This call came during the opening ceremony of the 36th anniversary of the centre, also known as the Muslims in Light Organisation. The event, themed ‘The Perfect Being – Sayyidena,’ attracted dignitaries from various backgrounds and served as a platform for spiritual empowerment, healing, and social impact initiatives.
Akinbile emphasized that security challenges are a global concern that should be addressed without any religious bias. He encouraged Nigerians to awaken the divine potential within them, highlighting that the nation possesses the capability to become a global leader if citizens fully harness their God-given talents. His message was clear: prioritizing knowledge and wisdom over mere ordinary prayers is essential. He added, “When we do this, we are truly serving God.”
In response to President Trump’s threat to invade Nigeria over claims of a “Christian genocide,” Akinbile asserted that no foreign nation could ever love Nigeria more than its own citizens. He stressed that Nigeria is a secular nation with freedom of worship and association. While acknowledging the existence of security challenges, he called for addressing the elements disrupting peaceful coexistence. Akinbile noted that Christians and Muslims in Nigeria unite, marry, and work together, emphasizing that they are one nation, united in love.
He further highlighted that the path to national development lies in unity, peace, and the practical application of faith through hard work and self-discovery. His message to Nigerians was a call to continue living in peace and unity, exploring the perfect being within them. Although languages may differ, he reminded everyone that the same blood runs in them.
Community Empowerment and Social Initiatives
Dr. Shakirat Idowu Akinbile, the wife of the founder, outlined several welfare and empowerment activities planned for the anniversary. These include the opening of a special market to sell subsidised food items, support packages for women, and business start-up initiatives aimed at assisting the unemployed in society. She emphasized that the government cannot do it all alone, and her organization ensures that they reach out to society by subsidizing food prices and empowering women to become self-reliant.
The event brought together a range of dignitaries, including representatives of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, and the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, among other political functionaries. They commended the Sufi Centre for its commitment to peace, unity, and interfaith harmony.
Highlights of the Celebration
The celebration featured Islamic songs, recitations from the Holy Qur’an, exhortations, goodwill messages, and the unveiling of various community outreach programmes. These events underscored the centre’s dedication to fostering a sense of community and promoting social cohesion.
