Operation Whirl Stroke Arrests Three Suspects in Benue State

Troops from Operation Whirl Stroke have made a significant arrest in Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State. The operation has detained three individuals suspected of possessing arms, according to an official statement released by the acting Media Information Officer of OPWS, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu.

The arrest took place on Wednesday, November 5, when troops conducting routine patrols along the Otukpo–Enugu Road at the Amoda axis of the local government intercepted the suspects. Based on intelligence gathered, the soldiers stopped the individuals while they were riding a motorcycle.

The suspects, identified as John Isaac (22 years), Baba Emmanuel (17 years), and Sunday Thomas (19 years), are all residents of Otukpo Local Government Area. During a search, the troops recovered three mobile phones and the sum of N20,200 from the suspects. According to the statement, this discovery was part of a broader effort to prevent potential criminal activities.

Zubairu stated that preliminary investigations suggest the suspects were en route to commit a crime before being apprehended. They are currently in custody for further investigation and legal proceedings.

The spokesperson for Operation Whirl Stroke also shared a message from the Force Commander, Major General Moses Gara, who praised the troops for their professionalism and proactive approach in preventing a possible security threat. Gara emphasized the importance of maintaining vigilance and intensifying surveillance efforts to ensure the safety of farmers and rural communities, especially during the ongoing harvest season.

He reiterated the commitment of Operation Whirl Stroke to preserving peace and stability across Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States. The military assures residents of its unwavering dedication to protecting lives and property.

This arrest follows a recent incident in Ohimini LGA, where four people were reportedly killed in an attack on a community. Confirming the event, the Chairman of the local government, Adole Gabriel, stated that two farmers were killed on Monday and another two on Tuesday afternoon.
