Pakistan’s Rising Tennis Stars Make Waves

Pakistan’s young tennis stars have continued to impress on the international stage, delivering remarkable performances both at home and abroad. Their achievements highlight a growing talent pool that is beginning to make its mark in global tennis.

At the ITF Pakistan National Foods World Junior Tennis Championship J-60 2025 held at the PTF-SDA Tennis Complex in Islamabad, local players Hamza Roman and Mikaeel Ali Baig advanced to the boys’ singles final, setting up an all-Pakistan showdown for the title. Hamza Roman secured his spot with a commanding 6-4, 6-2 victory over compatriot Abubakar Talha, while Mikaeel Ali Baig defeated Emre Atlamis of Turkey in a thrilling semifinal with a score of 6-3, 7-5.

In the girls’ singles category, Haniya Aman Minhas from KSA showcased her exceptional skills by defeating Denzi Cakil of Turkey with a score of 6-0, 7-5. Meanwhile, Varvara Rubtsova of Russia triumphed over Karolina Ligai of Kazakhstan with a close match result of 6-2, 7-6(4), securing her place in the final.

Dominance in Doubles

Pakistan’s dominance was also evident in the doubles category. The pair of Hamza Roman and Abubakar Talha delivered a hard-fought performance, winning their semifinal with a score of 6-7(3), 6-1, [10-6]. Mikaeel Ali Baig, partnering with Kristijonas Milasauskas of Lithuania, overcame Abdul Basit and M Haziq Aasim with a score of 2-6, 6-2, [10-3]. With both pairs reaching the final, Pakistan has once again established itself as a major contender in the title matches.

International Success

On the international front, Pakistan’s Nadir Mirza continued to shine in Japan. He qualified for the semifinals of the ITF World Junior Tennis Championship (J-30) in Osaka after defeating Kodai Abe of Japan in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-1. This achievement highlights the growing strength of Pakistani tennis players on the global stage.

The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) President, Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, praised the performances of the rising stars, stating, “Our players are performing remarkably well across the world, and I am very pleased to see such positive results. Having two boys in the singles final and three in the doubles’ final in Islamabad, while Nadir reaches the semifinals in Japan, reflects the hard work and progress being made in Pakistani tennis.”

Col (R) Zia-ud-Din Tufail, Secretary General of the PTF, also extended his congratulations, commending the players’ dedication and wishing them continued success in the upcoming finals.
