RSF Unleashes Drone Strikes on Four Sudanese Cities

Escalation of Conflict in Sudan: Drone Attacks Target Key Cities

In a significant escalation of violence, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched coordinated drone attacks on multiple cities controlled by the Sudanese army. The attacks occurred on Friday, November 7, 2025, targeting four key locations: Omdurman, Atbara, El-Obeid, and Al-Dailang. These strikes have intensified the ongoing conflict between the RSF and the Sudanese military, raising concerns about the stability of the region.

Drone Strikes on Atbara

The first reported attack targeted the city of Atbara, located in River Nile State, northern Sudan. Military sources indicated that RSF drones struck the city at dawn. However, the army’s anti-aircraft defenses successfully repelled the drones, which were attempting to hit Atbara airport. This marks the second such incident in recent days, highlighting the increasing use of aerial technology in the conflict.

Attacks on Omdurman

Omdurman, situated west of the capital Khartoum, also faced an RSF drone assault. According to military sources, the army managed to shoot down the drones en route to the Wadi Seidna military base, where the army headquarters is located. This successful interception prevented potential damage to critical military infrastructure.

Shelling in Al-Dailang

In Al-Dailang, located in South Kordofan State, the RSF and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) faction led by Abdulaziz al-Hilu launched heavy artillery shelling against the city for the second time within 24 hours. Local sources reported civilian casualties, similar to a previous attack on Thursday that resulted in six deaths, including a child. This pattern of repeated attacks has raised alarms about the safety of civilians in the area.

El-Obeid Under Fire

An RSF drone also targeted several locations in El-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State. While the extent of the damage remains unclear, the city continues to face constant drone and artillery fire from RSF forces stationed in surrounding areas. The ongoing bombardment has created a climate of fear and uncertainty among residents.

Impact on Civilian Population

The increasing frequency and intensity of these attacks have had a devastating impact on the civilian population. Reports of casualties and destruction highlight the human cost of the conflict. As both sides continue to escalate their operations, the risk of further civilian harm grows.

Regional and International Implications

The situation in Sudan has drawn attention from regional and international actors. The conflict has the potential to destabilize the entire Horn of Africa, given Sudan’s strategic location and its role as a crossroads for trade and migration. Diplomatic efforts are ongoing to mediate between the warring factions and prevent further bloodshed.

Ongoing Challenges

Despite the efforts of the Sudanese military to defend key cities, the RSF’s use of drones and artillery presents a formidable challenge. The ability of the RSF to conduct coordinated attacks suggests a level of organization and resources that may be difficult to counter. As the conflict continues, the need for a lasting political solution becomes increasingly urgent.
