A tragic road accident occurred on Saturday along the Sagamu-Benin Expressway in the Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State. According to the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), one person lost their life, while two others were injured in the incident.
The Public Relations Officer of TRACE, Mr. Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the details of the crash in a statement released on Sunday in Abeokuta. The accident took place at approximately 5:20 p.m. at the Ijebu-Ode Express Trailer Park.
According to Akinbiyi, the collision involved a containerized truck with registration number KTU 357 XX and a white bus with registration number DGB 650 XA. A preliminary investigation revealed that the accident was caused by excessive speeding on the part of the bus driver.
Eyewitnesses reported that the bus driver was traveling at a high speed when he lost control of the vehicle. The bus then collided with the stationary truck from the rear as it attempted to navigate the expressway from the trailer park.
There were five occupants in both vehicles, with two people in the truck and three in the bus. The driver of the bus died at the scene, while two passengers from the bus sustained minor injuries.
The TRACE spokesperson stated that its operatives, along with those from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), evacuated the deceased to the General Hospital Mortuary in Ijebu-Ode. The injured individuals were receiving medical treatment at the facility.
Akinbiyi added that TRACE officials collaborated with the FRSC and the Police to manage traffic and ensure the prompt removal of the accidented vehicles. Both the containerized truck and the bus were taken to the Ijebu-Ode Police Area Command, Igbeba, for further investigation.
Despite initial disruptions to traffic, TRACE operatives handled the situation professionally, restoring normal vehicular movement shortly after the evacuation.
