Lawal Calls for Muslim-Christian Unity in Zamfara

Governor Dauda Lawal Promotes Religious Harmony in Zamfara State

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has emphasized the importance of peace and harmony between Christians and Muslims, encouraging mutual respect and appreciation for the differences that exist between the two faiths. His message came during a significant visit by Christian leaders from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and other denominations.

The governor made his remarks on Friday at the Government House in Gusau, where he received the leadership of CAN and heads of various Christian groups who had come to express their appreciation. During the meeting, Lawal praised the efforts of the CAN Chairman, Evangelist Jibril Afolabi, and other Christian leaders for their commitment to fostering unity and goodwill. He also reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to ensuring the well-being and comfort of all Christians in the state.

Addressing Long-Standing Land Disputes

Lawal shared a detailed account of a long-standing land dispute in the Tudun Wada area of Gusau. For over three decades, a church had purchased land in the region with the intention of building a school and a place of worship. However, some residents obstructed these efforts. He noted that previous administrations were unable to resolve the issue until his intervention.

“When I took office, the church leaders and CAN officials met with me, and I decided to purchase the land for the construction of public schools that would serve both Christians and Muslims,” the governor explained. His decision aimed to address the needs of the community while promoting inclusivity and cooperation.

Encouraging Peace and Tolerance

In addition to resolving the land dispute, Governor Lawal urged residents to embrace peace and tolerance. He highlighted that God allowed the coexistence of the two faiths for a divine purpose. His message resonated with the Christian leaders present, who acknowledged his efforts in maintaining religious harmony.

Earlier in the day, Evangelist Jibril Afolabi, the CAN Chairman, and Pastor Umoru Emmanuel, the State Pastor of Living Faith Church, commended the governor for his fairness and wisdom in addressing the long-standing conflict. They described him as “a worthy father who welcomes everyone without discrimination.”

Recognizing Efforts Toward Harmony

The visit culminated in the presentation of an Ambassador of Peace Award to Governor Lawal by the CAN leadership. This recognition was given in acknowledgment of his efforts to promote religious harmony within Zamfara State.

Conclusion

Governor Dauda Lawal’s actions and words reflect a deep commitment to fostering unity among different religious communities. By addressing longstanding disputes and promoting mutual respect, he sets a positive example for others to follow. His leadership continues to play a crucial role in ensuring that all citizens, regardless of their faith, can live together in peace and prosperity.
